SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,922, dated April 21, 1891.

To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JOHN A. TEUMAN, of Grand View, .Iackson county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Staple-Fullers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in staple-pullers; and it consists of a single piece of iron or steel whose different parts are made in the peculiar shape which will be Inore fully Set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed ont in the claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of myinvention, showing what might be termed its upper surface. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of its under surface. Fig. 3 is an edge view of my invention.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheap, convenient, and durable tool for the use of barbed-wire-fence builders, which may be used as a staple-puller, with which a sta ple can be drawn from the wood with ease from any position, I having provided different drawing-points, and whereby a nail or tack may be also drawn or driven in place.
My improved puller can be made of a single piece of metal, preferably ot' malleable cast-iron.
The handle or Inain part A is composed of a rectangular bar of greater breadth than thickness, and has at one end thereof the extensions a and a', projecting from its opposite sides, one of the said projections or extensions ct being sharpened and adapted to be used as a prong to be inserted beneath a staple c, as
shown in Fig. 2, while the other extension a' has its end terminating in a flat face and is adapted to be used as a hammer. The opposite end of the handle is bifurcated, forming prongs ai", between which is the recess a5, which is adapted to draw a nail ZJ, as shown in Fig. 1. An offset C0* is formed in the handle A, near the end thereof, having the recess @5 therein, and a lug a2 is formed on one of the surfaces of the handle at such odset, the lug being formed by the continuation of the shorter end of the handle and serves as a means for drawing a staple c, as shown in Fig. 3, and as a fulcrum for the handle when a nail is being drawn by the crotch a5, Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim s- 4 The hereinbefore-described tool, formed of a ingle piece of Inetal an d consisting of a handle of greater breadth than thickness having an oiiset therein near one of its ends, prongs a3 upon the end of the said handle near the said offset, forming a crotch a5, a lug at the said offset on one surface of the said handle and formed by the extension of the said end of the handle, and extensions upon the opposite sides of the opposite end of the said handle, one of the said extensions being pointed and the other terminating' in a fiat face, as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN A. TRUMAN.
