Description

(No Model.)
B. D; BANG-S. SASH FASTBNER. No. 449,895.
Patented Apr. 7, 1891.
mi NORM: PETERS om, mow-mum. wmmn-rcm, n. c.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDIVIN D. BANGS, OF MIL\VAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF TIVO-THIRDS TO MANNING H. CASE AND HAROLD UNDERVOOD, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
SASH-FASTENERE SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,895, dated April 7, 1891.
Application filed October 11,1890. Serial No. 367,789. (No modeL) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it'known that I, EDWIN D. BANGS, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of \Visconsin,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Win- (low-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to attachments to win- IO dow-frames; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction, as hereinafter described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a porr 5 tion of a window casing and sash, and illustrates the application of my device in connection therewith, the sash beingheld in its closed position by the said device. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the sash partly raised and held in that position by the aforesaid device.
Referring by letter to the drawings, myinvention consists of a spring A of suitable material, adapted to be secured, as by screws to a, to the frame or casing 13, the former having its upper portion 0 bent laterally, so as to fit over the upper corner of the top rail E of the sash and hold the latter in position when closed, and having its end portion D struck up vertically to form a thumb-piece.
0 The casing B is provided with a recess or groove 1), adapted to receive the spring A.
To operate the device, the spring A is forced into the recess b by means of pressure on the vertically-struck-up portion D, when 5 the sash may be raised, and the spring-A will I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a window casing and sash, of a vertical groove formed in the face of said casing adjacent to the sash, and a spring located in said vertical groove, said spring being permanently secured at one end to said casing within said groove and being bent laterally at its free end to form a shoulder and then upwardly to form a thumb-piece, said spring being arranged to bear against the side of the sash when the window is opened and to automatically [itover the cross-rail of the sash to lock the window when it is closed, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in
. the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN D. BANGS.
