Description

UNITED STATES LOUIS O.
PATENT OFFICE.
MAURER, OF BROOKLYN, NEYV YORK.
COMPOSITION FOR SHARPENING RAZORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,752, dated March 24, 1891. 7 Application filed October 1, 1890. Serial No. 366,775. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS O. MAURER, of Brooklyn, New York, have invented an Improved Composition for Sharpening Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved composition adapted to be spread upona strop' t0 the mixture to form a paste. This paste is run into molds and allowed to set, when it is ready for use. In use some of the paste is spread on the strop and rubbed upon the leather, preferably by the back of the razor. The razor is then passed over the strop in the usual manner and Will be thoroughly sharpened in a very short time, receiving a clean and perfect edge. Possibly the oleic acid may be replaced by an oil; but I have found that the oleic acid aids materially in the sharpening, process and is a very desirable ingredient of the composition.
What I claim is A sharpening compound consisting of emery, tallow, and oleic acid, in the proportions substantially as specified.
LOUIS O. MAURER.
