Description

(Na Model.)
W. G. JARVIS. PASTBNB'B. FOR PURNITURB.
No. 447,829. Patented Mar. 10,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM GEORGE JARVIS, OF PIQUA, OHIO.
FASTENER FOR FU RNITU RE..
SPECIFlCATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 447,829, dated March 10, 1891.
Application filed May 10, 1890. Serial No. 351.303. (No model.)
. others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in wardrobes, book-cases, and similar articles of furniture, and more particularly to an improved device for securing the parts of such furniture together.
The object of myinvention is to provide a simple and efficient device for easily and quickly securing the sectional parts of a piece of furniture together.
A further object is to so construct such fastening device that the parts of a piece of furniture may be easily and quickly unfastened and taken apart, when desired, Without in the least impairing the efficiency of the device.
Vith these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of a wardrobe having` my improved fastener applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view in section through a portion of a wardrobe, showing the fastening device in elevation. Fig. 3 represents Views of the fastenerin bottom plan and side elevation, and Fig. 4 is an edge view of the same.
In the drawings the fastener is shown applied to awardrobe comprising two sectionsA B, one located upon the other, and in this instance the partA is adapted to receive articles to be hung up, and the lower part B comprises a series of drawers.
dech B' of part B, close to the edge thereof,
and is adapted to engage an upright A' of the part A, as hereinafterl more fully explained.
The fastener or button C is preferably made of metal, and comprises a head D and a stem or handle E. A portion of one face of the head D is made fiat, to produce a seat a, so that the device may have a fiat bearing` upon the device to which it is pivoted. 'Projecting from the seat ais an eccentric lip b,which is adapted to enter a recess c in the upright portion of the part A of the furniture. The top of the head D is preferably recessed or dished, and in this dis'hed portion a perforation c' is made for the recept-ion of a screw or pin C2, by means of which the fastener is attached to the furniture.
A series of these fasteners or buttons is pivoted to the deck B' near the edge thereof, and When the part A is placed in position they are turned by means of theirhandles E, and the lips b made to enter the recesses c in the uprights A' of the part A, and thus securely unite the parts A B together.
Having fully described my invention7 what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a fastening device consisting of a head and a handle, the head being eccent-rically pivoted and having a flat seat on one side and a lip of greater diameter than the seat on the other side, said lip and seat being in planes at convergence or divergence to each other, substantially ,as set forth.
In testimony Whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two Subscribing witnesses.
WM. GEORGE JARVIS.
