IIERRMANN SOHIMANSKY AND LUDIVIG IASSELT, OF BERLIN, GERMANY, ASSIGNORS TO MORIVITZ & 00., OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FRAME FOR HOLDING STE-REOTYPE'PMOLDS- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,695, dated February 17, 1891.
Application filed May 14, 1887. Serial No. 238,173. (No model.) Patented in Germany December 1, 1882, No. 22,755, and in England May 2, 1883,No. 2,231.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, HERRMANN SOHIMANS- Ki? and LUDWIG PASSELT, subjects of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Frames for Holding Stereotype- Molds, which invention has been patented by us in Great Britain on May 2,18S3,No.2,231, and in Germany on December 1, 1882, No.
The said improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 represents a top or plan view,
is partly broken away, of a frame for holding stereotype-molds embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Our invention consists of a frame for holding a stereotype-mold adapted to prevent shrinking of the same while being baked.
It further consists of open or net work adapted to prevent sagging of the mold.
2 5 Referring to the drawings, A represents a metallic frame formed of two sections A A which are adapted to receive between them the outer edges of a stereotype-mold. The sides of the sections are formed with openings B at coincident places to receive bolts 0, the upper ends whereof are provided with handles or levers O for conveniently rotating the same, the openings of the uppersection being of the form of slots, which extend to 5 the outer edges of the sections.
prevent displacement of the bolts when the sections are separated, they are connected with the lowersection of the same as fixtures thereof.
On the upper face of the section A of the frame are lugs or flanges D, having annular inclined upper faces. The said lugs are adjacent to or encircle the openings or slots B, and adapted to have the under sides of the 5 levers C ride thereon,in order to tighten said levers against the lugs D and clamp the sections of the frames firmly together.
The operation is as follows: The levers are rotated so as to occupy a position at a right angle to the sides of the frame, as shown at the bottom of Fig. 1, whereby the upper section may be raised and removed from the In order to lower section, it being seen that the levers do not prevent theremoval of the upper section, owing to the coincident position of the slots B and said lovers. The stereotype-mold, duly faced downward,is nowlaid on the lower section of the frame and the upper section restored to its normal position, after which the levers are rotated, whereby they ride up the inclined lugs and tightlyclamp the edges of the mold between the two sections of the frame. The mold as held maynow be baked in any suitable manner, and it will be found that said mold is prevented from shriveling or warping and so preserves its proper shape.
It will also be seen that by the use of the frame as described the mold may be removed from the type, out, &c., prior to drying and baking, thus avoiding subjecting the type, 7o &c., to heat and consequent injury.
In order to prevent sagging of the body of the mold, we secure to the section of the frame netting or open-work or wire, or other suitable material, forming a mesh-like bed E, which sustains the mold and permits the heat to reach the same.
The sections of the frame are provided with suitable knobs and handles, for convenience of manipulating the sa me.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device for the purpose named, consisting of detachable sections, one of which has a bed and bolts secured thereto, the said bolts having handles, as described, the other section having openings with slotted outer walls and flanges with annular inclined upper faces, substantially as described. 0
2. A device for the purpose named, consisting of detachable sections, one of which has bolts and handles secured to the sides thereof, and provided with a reticulated bed, the other section having openings in its sides with slotted outer walls and flanges with-inclined upper faces, said parts being combined substantially as described.
HERRMANN SOHIMANSKY. LUDWIG PASSELT.
