UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. BAKER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OIL-CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,490, dated January 27, 1891.
Application filed April 12 1890 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. BAKER, of I he city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Oil-Cup, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a practical oil-cup designed more particularly for wagon-hubs, but may be used in other situations.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a wagon hub and axle, showing my invention applied thereto; and Fig. 2 is a persp ctive View of the oiler removed from the hub.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
A represents the hub; B, the axle, and O ,the oil box or cup fitted in opening D, made in the hub.
The oil-cup comprises a main body formed with an oil-chamberb and bottom aperture 0, through which the oil passes from the chamber to the axle. The exterior of the main body is in three diameters and formed with as many sets of screw-threads viz., the screwthreads (Z to screw into the hub, the intermediate screw-threads d to receive the outer cap E, and the upper screw-threads d to re- Serial No. 347,597. (No model.)
ceive the inner cap F. Between the screwthreads d d the body is made polygonal, as at (Z to adapt the cup to be screwed to place by means of a wrench. The lower end of the main body is reduced, as shown at e, and curved to form the lips e e, which come in contact with the axle and prevent clogging of the orifice c.
In the inner cap F is fitted a screw-rodf, the point of which is adapted to close more or less or wholly the apertures c, and this rod is screw-threaded, and by turning it in or out the flow of oil from the oil-chamber to the axle may be regulated, as desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The main body formed with an oil-chamber and orifice c and having its exterior formed with screw-threads d d d in combination with the inner and outer caps and the screw-rod f to regulate the flow of oil, sub stantially as described.
2. The main body formed with an oil-chamber and an orifice c and formed with the tips 6' at the lower end and screw-threaded at (Z d (1 in combination with the screw-caps E F and the screw-rod), fitted in the inner cap, substantially as described.
CHARLES H. BAKER.
