' O. H. HICKS. BUNDLE 0P TOILET PAPER.
No. 443,851. Patented Dec. so, 1890..
WIT/M8856 *H/s ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES MATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER II. HICKS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE MORGAN ENVELOPE COMPANY, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
BUNDLE OF TOILET-PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,851, dated December 30, 1890.
Application filed May 26, 1888. Serial No. 75,227. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER II. HICKS, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usef ul Improvements in Bundles of Toilet-Paper; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain improvements in the construction of bundles of toiletpaper and other materials, wherein a series of detachable sheets are associated together in the form of a package, from which latter the said sheets are to be removed one ata time from the face of the package; and my said invention consists in so connecting the separately-folded sheets forming the package by a separable attaching device or medium that the withdrawal of the outer sheet will, through its connection with another sheet, raise and release the latter oraportion thereof from the package, so that it can be readily grasped and the sheets separated or pulled apart without tearing.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is perspective view of a package constructed in accordance with my present invention. Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic View illustrating the manner of putting the sheets together.
Like letters of reference in both figures indicate the same parts.
The letter A designates a bundle of paper or other material composed of a number of folded sheets superimposed one upon another, each sheet being connected to the next succeeding sheet by a detachable fastening or attachment, weak gum preferred, which will permit the sheets to be readily separated by a slight pull, but is of sufficient strength to cause the end of the succeeding sheet to be separated from the face of the package, so that it can be readily grasped after the removal of the preceding sheet. The gum or other separable fastening is preferably applied at or near the ends of the sheets, successively-that is to say, one end of each sheet is attachedto the corresponding end of the preceding sheet and the opposite end to the corresponding end of the succeeding sheet.
As shown in the drawings, the separate sheets are folded on themselves at substantially the center, and the detachable fastening is applied at the points 6, indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 1, and shown clearly in Fig. 2, such fastenings being on the same face of each sheet and at opposite ends thereof.
The Whole bundle is bound together by a wire or other suspension device 1), preferably passing through both ends of all the sheets, as obvious modifications of the construction, which will accomplish the same end, may be made without departing from the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. A paper package adapted to deliver a single sheet at a time, consisting of a pile of sheets each folded on itself, having their confronting outer faces pasted at or near their cut ends and bound together, substantially as described.
2. A paper package adapted to deliver a single sheet at a time, consisting of a pile of sheets each folded on itself, having their confronting outer faces united or confined together by a separable fastening, and a fastening device or wire engaging both ends of all the sheets, substantially as described.
3. A paper package or bundle composed of a series of superimposed sheets, each sheet being united to the adjacent sheets by separable fastening devices applied to the same .face of the sheets at each end, substantially as described.
