(No Model.)
J. F. MAINS.
FUEL GAS BURNER.
No. 443,835. Patented Deo. 30V, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. MAINS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF THREEFOURTHS TO BRUCE CARR, HARVEY M. LA FOLLETTE, AND EDVARD J. ROBISON,
OF SAME PLACE.
FUEL-GAS BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters' Patent No. 443,835, dated December 30, 1890.
Application tiled October 27, 1890. Serial No. 369,445. (No model.) A
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. MAINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fuel-Gas Burners, of which the following' is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved burner for burning fuel-gas, of that class which conto sists of a hollow cast-plate having a gas-inlet on one side and numerous small perforations through which the gas escapes on the opposite side.
The object of my improvement is to so construct the opposite sides of the burner that they may be cast separately and then secured together in such a manner as to prevent both from warping, and without the use of screws, bolts, rivets, or other separate parts.
zo The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure l represents a front elevation; Fig. 2, a transverse section at a, Fig. l; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal section at b, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a front elevation of the back plate, and Fig. 5 an end elevation of the same. Fig. 6 is an elevation showing the back side of the front plate.
A is a recessed or dish-shaped castin forming the back plate of the burner, and having at its ends outwardly projecting lateral flanges c c and on one of its sides a similar flange (l. The other side of plate A is provided with an inwardly-projecting flange e,
arranged in the same plane as flanges c c. The burner is designed to stand inclined at an angle of about forty-five degrees, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the side or edge having flange d being the upper edge and that having ange e being the lower edge. 4o
F is an opening in plate A, adapted to be connected with the gas-supply pipe.
H is the top plate, having on its front side numerous projecting lugs t', each lug having at its foot a perforation j ext-ending through the plate and forming an outlet for the gas.
The back side of plate H is provided with marginal ribs 7e 7o and l, having their inner edges grooved or undercut to receive the flanges c c and d of plate A, and having also 5o a rib m, whose outer edge is similarly undercut to receive the flange e.
For the purpose of easily putting the plates A and H together with a tight lit, both plates are tapered, being a little shorter on their upper than on their lower edges. The plates being constructed as shown and described,
, are secured together by sliding plate H down JOHN F. MAINS.
