E. RUTZL-E'R. PIPE HANGER.
No. 443,198. Patented Dec. 23, 1890.

ENOCH RUTZLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PIPE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,198, dated December 23, 1890. Application filed August 28, 1890. Serial No. 363,809. (No model.)
T0 61/ whom, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ENOCE RUTZLER, of the city and county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in pipehangers in which the hanger is formed in two half-sections and provision made for the seating therein of anti-friction devices to admit of the free longitudinal adjustment of the pipe within the hanger without liability of binding.
A practical embodiment of myinvention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in WhiC'lib Figure 1 represents a hanger in elevation, looking in the direction of the line of pipe, showing the position of the section of pipe therein. Fig. 2 is a View of one of the halfsections of the hanger in detail. Fig. 3 is a view of the other half-section in detail. Fig. at is a transverse section taken through line a: a; of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a top plan View of the lower portion of the hanger, showing the anti-friction rollers seated.
The half-sections of the hanger are denoted, respectively, byA and B. They are each provided with upwarc'lly-extended neck portions a and b, which approach each other and are adapted to receive between them the depending tongue 0 of a fixed support 0. The necks ab are further provided with perforations a I), through which and through a perforation in the tongue 0 a securing-bolt D is intended to pass. A nut (Z on the projecting end of the bolt D serves to lock the upper ends of the two half-sections to the depending tongue 0. The middle portion of the sections A l3v curve outwardly to surround the opposite sides of the pipe and then inwardly toward one another to extend underneath the pipe. Each of the sections A and B is extended past the lower middle portion of the pipe, so that the two half-sections when in posit-ion overlap each other for a considerable dis tance. The overlapping portion of the section A is represented by a and the overlap ping portion of the section B is represented by h One of said overlapping portions, in
the present instance a is provided with laterally-extending rounded recesses a located preferably near each other and one upon each side of the vertical axis of the hanger. The lower edge of the portion a on the side toward the overlapping portion b is recessed, as shown at a, to receive a corresponding projecting flange 6 on the lower edge of the portion 19 when the parts are assembled.
The overlapping portion b may be made. with its inner face flat, as shown, and is intended to approach the portion a to a point where'it will securely lock the spherical balls or rollers E in their seats a with their upper faces projecting slightly above the upper edges of the overlapping portions a b The parts are as sembled by placing the balls or rollers F in their seats a and then adjusting the overlapping portion 5 in position with its projecting flange b in the recess a", and looking the two parts together by means of a bolt F, provided with a nut f, the bolt extending through registering perforations f in the two overlapping portions.
As an additional locking device I provide the upper corner at the free end of the portion a with a recess a, in which fits a pro jecting lug b upon the overlapping portion 11 and so prevents any liability of the free end. of the portion a becoming laterally displaced.
When the parts are adjusted, the pipe G rests upon the ballrollers E, and may be read ily adjusted to form the necessary connections.
Although I have herein shown two seats for the reception of two ball-bearings, it is evi dent that the number might be greater or less than two, if so desired.
hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A pipe-hanger comprising two overlapping sections, the overlapping "portions extending beneath the position which the pipe is intended to occupy, an anti-friction device located between the overlapping portions of the sections, and means for securing the sections together, substantially as set forth.
2. A pipe-hanger comprising two overlapping scctions, one of the sections being provided with rounded seats for the reception of ball-bearings, and the other section forming a guard to lock thebearings in their seats, and means for securing the sections together, substantially as set forth.
3. A pipe-hanger comprising two sections, the lower portions of the two sections overlapping each other below the position which the pipe is to occupy, a recess upon one of 10 the sections and a corresponding tongue upon the opposite section arranged to engage the recess, seats for the ball-bearings formed in ENOCII RU ZLER.
