WVith pole-extensions constructed and adjusted in accordance with my invention the strength of current developed by the exciter, and consequently the current of the main machine, is enabled to be regulated and controlled promptly and to the greatest nicety.
The connection of the exciter to the main dynamo in the manner described renders the machine as a whole simple, strong,'compact, and efficient.
In Fig. 4; a dynamo is shown to which my regulating devices are applied, the current generatedbeing regulated to a fractional part of a unit without changing the speed of the armature or introducing any resistance in the field or shunt circuit.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. In a dynamo-electric machine, the combiuation, with the armature and field-mag nets, of the pole-pieces pivotally mounted on the ends of said magnets and having thelugs or projections F F, the eyebolts journaled in said lugs, and the right-and-left-hand screw-shaft co-operatin g with said eyebolts to vary the position of the pole-pieces simultaneously with relation to the armature, substant-ially as described.
2. In a dynamo-electric machine, the combination, with the field-magnets and the polepieces surrounding and movably mounted on the ends thereof, of the bracket secured on the ends of the magnets to retain the polepieces in position, and means, substantially as described, for adjusting said pole-pieces with relation to the armature, as described.
3, In a dynamo-machine, the combination of the cores of the field-magnets, the bracket substantially screwed to the end of said cores, having the downwardly-extending lug for receiving the screw-shaft, the pivoted pole extensions, and the screw-shaft and its hand-wheel, substantially as described.
4. In a dynamo-machine, the combination of the armature, the field-magnets having thepivoted pole-extensions, the bracket on the ends of the cores, having the upwardly-extending supporting-arm and the downwardlyextending lug, and the adjustable screwshaft and its handovheel, substantially as described.
5. The combination, with the frame of the main dynamo-machine and the shaft of said main machine, of the field-magnets, the auxiliary dynamo or exciter connected to and supported by said main frame, the adjustable pole-extensions of said exciter, and the armature thereof, connected to the shaft of the main machine, substantially as described.
6. The combination, with the frame of the main machine and the shaft of said machine, of the field-magnets of said machine, the field-magnets, the exciter connected to and supported bysaid main frame, the adjustable pole-extensions of said exciter, the bracket on the end of the core of the field-magnets, the armature, and the adjustable right-andleft screw-shaft, substantially as described.
7. In the herein described dynamo, the bracket I, adapted to be secured to the ends of the cores of the'field-magnets, and having the upper arm lforsupportingthe armatureshaft, and the lower arm or lug I for receiving the adjustable right-and'left screw-shaft, substantially as described.
