SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,727, dated November 4, 1890.
Application filed February 28, 1890. Serial No. 342,090. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, AUGUSTUS M. FENNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Linesville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Treadle Movements; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the anneXed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements inV treadle movements, and is designed more especially as an improvement upon the device shown, described, and claimed in my patent, No. 363,289, dated May 17, 1887.
It has for its obj ect to simplify and cheapen the construction without detracting from the satisfactory result obtained. I change the form of the lever, dispense with the slot at the upper end thereof, change the form of the pitman, and connect upV the parts differently.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specically pointed out in the appended claims.
The novelty resides in the peculiar combinations and the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly set forth in the claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in Which-m Figure l is a side elevation of a machineframe and crank=wheel with my improved treadle movement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in both views.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a portion of a machineframe, and B a crankshaft snp'- ported in suitable bearings thereon and oarrying the drive-wheel C.
D is a lever fulcrumed at a on a stud on the frame or otherwise, and at its lower end jecting laterally from the treadle E, which has a journal at one end in the frame, as shown best in' Fig. 2, and is provided at its rear corner with an angularly-extending stud or lug c, t0 lwhich the lower end of the pitman F is pivotally connected. The upper end of the pitman is suitably connected with the crank-arm G on the crank-shaft, and at a point above its longitudinal center is formed with a lateral extension d, to which is pivotally connected one end of the horizontal connecting-rod II, the other end of which is pivotally connected with the upper end of the lever D. This lateral extension is preferably integral with the pitman, and is for the purpose of allowing the use of a longer connecting-rod to avoid unsteady jerking motion to the treadle.
What I claim as new isl. The combination, with a drive-wheel and its crank-shaft, of the pitman formed with a lateral extension d between its ends, the lever, the treadle, and the horizontal connectingrod connecting the upper end of the lever with the extension of the pitman, substantially as specified. 4

The combination, with the drive-wheel and its crank-shaft, of the treadle having at one corner an angularly-extending lug, the pitman connected at its lower end with said lug and at its upper end with the crank of the crank-shaft and form ed between its ends with a rearward lateral extension CZ, the lever fulcrumed between its ends and connected with the treadle, and the connectingrod connecting the upper end of the lever with the extension of the pitman, substantially as speoied.
