COAL-OIL LAMPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,953, dated August 23, 1864 anted'ated .T11ne.16, 1863- 12) all whom it may' concern.- Be it known that I, J. ll/IOWERY, 0t Phila' delphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Goal Oil Lamps and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact-description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,

and to the letters of reference marked thereon. 3

p invention relates to an improvement, fully described hereinafter, in coal-oil lamps, made, first, fortliexpurpose of obtaining an extendcdattenuated flame, and one of increased brilliancy 1 secondly, for the preven tion of' smokewithout usingtheordinary glass chimney. 1

In order to enable others to makeand use my .inyention, I--will now proceed to describe -itsconstruction and operation.

and, consequently, burning with increasedbrilliancy and unaccompanied by the usual smoke.

v l have found. by practical tests that the best shape for the curved plates is tha trepresented in the sect ional view, Fig. 4-namely,
