UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONHARD UEBELACKER, OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
SWIMMING TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,313, dated October 28, 1890. I Application filed January 3, 1890. Serial No. 335,794. (Model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
BeitknownthatI,LEONHARDUEBELAOKER, of the city of Nuremberg, Bavaria, in the German Empire, have invented an Improvement in Swimming Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved toy. Fig. 2 represents a top View of a basin or tub containing the toy.
The object of my invention is to produce a mode of motion by the evaporation of camphor or equivalent chemical, to be adapted to propel swimming toyssuch as fishes, aquatic birds, ships, &c.and as a substitute for the means of propelling such toys now in use, and to resemble closely the natural mode of propelling such articles.
My invention consists in attaching to a figure representing any swimming or floating object, by means of a spring or clasp, a piece of camphor, and utilizing the evaporation of said camphor to propel said object, as will more fully appear in the subsequentdescription.
To the back part of the swimming object A, made of any suitable material, on or below the water-line ofsaid figure, is fastened or soldered a spring or clasp f to hold a piece of camphor is against the rear surface of said object A, as in Fig. 1. As soon as the figure A with the camphor, in place is put into the basin 13, holding water, Fig. 2, by the chemical be propelled forward. This forward motion will continue until either the camphor is used up or until the water becomes saturated with a solution of camphor and then will stop. When this stage is reached, the vessel must be cleansed and fresh water poured into it, if the operation is to be repeated.
The advantage of my invention is the elimination of mechanical contrivances, which are very apt to become out of order.
Therefore, having described my invention, what I claim is g A swimming toy having a spring or clasp f, adapted to hold and combined with a piece of camphor 70 for propelling the toy by the evaporation of said camphor, substantially as herein shown and described.
The foregoing specification of myinvention sign ed by me this 30th day of November, 1889.
LE ONHARD UEBELAGKER.
