Description

(No M0d e1) H. o. BARKBR.
SYRINGB.
No. 488,980. Patented oct. 21, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. BARKER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO FREDERICK W. SIHLER, WILLIAM P. HUCKE, AND HENRY P. SCOTT, OF SAME PLACE.
SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,980, dated October 21, 1890.
Application led March '7, 1890. Serial No. 343,021. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. BARKER, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Syringes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in vaginal syringes; and my invention consists of features of novelty hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a plain view of the device. Fig. II is an enlarged detail View of the wire frame that surrounds the nozzle of the syringe. Fig. III is an enlarged view of the nozzle. Fig. IV is a section taken on line IV IV, Fig. Il.
Referring to the drawings, l represents the nozzle of the syringe with its discharge-orifices 2.
3 represents a wire frame constructed into an oval Shape, the outer ends of the wires being bent inward, forminga return-bend. The ends of the wires are secured to a cone-shaped point 4. The inner ends of the Wires are secured to a collar 5.
In arranging the syringe for use the nozzle is inserted in the wire frame, as shown in Fig. I, the cone 4 entering into a hole 6 in the end of the nozzle in order to hold the same to its proper position.
7 represents an enlarged portion near the rear end of the nozzle. This portion lits snugly within the collar 5 and holds the nozzle in its position in the frame.
8 represents a spring-catch secured to the wire frame, which passes over a ring 9 on the nozzle. This catch will serve to hold the nozzle in its position in the frame in case the portion 7 should become Worn and its connection with the collar be not close enough to hold the nozzle in the frame.
10 represents a button on the inner end of the nozzle, over which the rubber tube of the injector is placed.
11 represents th orifice 12.
By the use of my improved frame surrounding the discharge-orifice of the syringe the walls of the vagina are distended, permitting the cleansing-fluid to have free access to all parts of the vagina, cleansing the same and the mouth of the womb in a thorough manner. After the operation the nozzle may be 5 5 withdrawn from the frame and the different parts readily cleaned.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a syringe, the combination of a nozzle, an voval frame surrounding the nozzle, return-bend in the frame, a cone-shaped point secured to the end of the frame, said point engaging in an opening in the end of the nozzle, and means for securing the frame to the nozzle, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a frame for surrounding a discharge-nozzle of a syringe, said frame being provided at one of itsends with a cone-shaped point and the other end with a collar, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a syringe, the combination of the nozzle 1, having an enlarged portion or bulge 7 the frame 3, a collar 5, secured to the frame and in which the bulge tits snugly, andlmeans Yin connection with the collar and bulge for securing'the parts together, consisting of a catch carried by one and engaging the other, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 8o
