FIRE-KINDLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,558, dated October 14, 1890.
Serial No. 355L749. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEFF; D. PACE,a citizen of the United States, residing at Gibsland,in the parish of Bienville and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Fire- Kindler, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in fire-kindlers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive fire-kindler capable of convenient use and adapted to be readilyrefilled with a hydrocarbon, and to have its parts dissembled for the purpose of cleaning or supplying wasted parts.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a fire-kindler embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective of the torch, the sections being separated.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a cylindrical reservoir, in which is arranged one end of a wick-tube 2, which has its other end arranged'in a torch 3, that is composed of sections 4 and 5 and provided with an interior packing 6 of asbestus,which surrounds the end of the Wick-tube 2. The end'7 of the wick-tube is perforated to permit the passage of the hydrocarbon, which saturates the asbestus packing 6, and the sections 4 and 5 of the torch, which is constructed of suitable metal, are provided with annular grooves, in which are arranged wires 8 and 9 or other suitable means for securing the sections together. A wick 10is arranged in the tube 2, and the end 11 of the cylindrical reservoir is interiorly threaded and closed by a threaded plug 12, which is provided with a ring 13, by means of which the firekindler can be hung upon a nail or hook when it is not in use, and the other end 14 is similarly closed by a plug15, that is provided with a central opening to receive the wick-tube. The oil passes from the reservoir through the wick-tube and saturates the asbestus packing, which is ignited, and the torch is placed in a stove in the usual manner. The torch is lighted at the meeting edges of the sections, and suflicient oil passes between the sections to keep the torch in a blaze. The section 5 of the torch is provided with a shoulder 16, against which the adjacent end of the other section 4 abuts, and the said shoulder is provided with a central opening 17 to receive the wick-tube.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.
WVhat I claim is- A fire-kindler comprising the cylindrical reservoir having its ends interiorly threaded, the wick-tube having one end secured to the reservoir and arranged therein, the torch secured to the other end of the wick-tube and consisting of two sections 4 and 5, provided with annular grooves to receive suitable means for securing the sections together, one of said sections being provided with a shoulder 16, against which the adjacent end of the other section abuts, the plug 12 closing one end of the reservoir and provided with a ring 13, the plug closing the other end. of the reservoir and provided with a central opening to receive the wick-tube, the wick, and the asbestus packing arranged within the torch and surrounding the end of the wicktube, substantially as described.
