Description

NITED STATES MAYER DOPPELMAYER, OF SHERMAN, TEXAS.
LINIMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,063, dated October '7, 1890.
Application filed July 25, 1890- $eria1 No. 359,918. (No specimens.)
To aZZ whom it 11mg concern.-
Be it known that I, MAYER DOPPELMAYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Medical Compound, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in medical compounds.
TO The object of the present invention is to provide a medical compound or liniment for the alleviation and cure of wounds, especially those occasioned by barb-wire fences, burns, bruises, sprains, rheumatism, frost-bites, and
I 5 hemorrhoids on man or beast.
The compound consists of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated, viz: refined cotton-seed oil, four table-spoonfuls; cotton-seed oil, (third quality,) one and one-halftable-spoonful; carbolicacid, one and one-half table-spoonful; coal oil, nine and one-half table-spoonfuls turpentine, nine and one-half table-spoonfuls; tallow, six tablespoonfuls; beeswax, two table-spoonfuls.
2 5 The ingredients are compounded as follows: The tallow and beeswax are melted separately and then mixed while both are in a heated condition. Immediately after this, agitate the mixture and add the refined cotton-seed oil,
coal-oil, turpentine, carbolic acid, (dissolved,) and the third quality of cotton-seed oil, each in their order named. The ingredients are mixed in an open vessel, the contents of which are well stirred while compounding the mix- 3 5 ture. After being thoroughly mixed the Whole is put up in bottles and should be well shaken before using.
For torn and cut skin, flesh, leader, and
barb wire cuts take a small cloth and saturate with the liniment and apply to the wound (without rubbing) three times a day, if in summer, and twice if in winter. The Wound should not be tied up or covered or in any way bandaged, and water should not be employed for washing, but always clean with the liniment. Where the Wound is a deep one, clean out first by tying a long narrow piece of cloth to a switch and turning the switch until the entire cloth, with the exception of a small end, is in the wound. Then pull out the cloth. This should be repeated twice a day until the wound stops running. Always use the liniment after the wound is cleaned as above and continue to use the liniment with a syringe until the wound is healed. For frost-bites use at night until perfectly cured. For hemorrhoids dilute by adding one-half the quantity of butter (without salt) or sweetoil and apply to the parts. For bruises rub lightly, applying the liniment with the hand morning and night. For sprains and rheumatism rub the liniment in well with the hand night and morning.
What I claim is The hereindescribed medical compound, 6 5 consisting of cotton-seed oil, carbolic acid, coal-oil, turpentine, tallow, and beeswax, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in 7 presence of two witnesses.
MAYER DOPPELM AYER.
