J OHl\ A. YOUNGKIN AND JOSIAH S. YOUNGKIN, OF SWEET HOME, TEXAS.
VETERINARY MEDICINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,355, dated April 22, 18.9 0.
Application filed October 30,1889. Serial No. 828,678. (No specimens.)
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN A. YOUNGKIN and JOSIAH S. YOUNGKIN, citizens of the United States, residing at Sweet Home, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Exterminating Screw- WVorms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a compound for the eradication of screw-worms in animals, and it has for its object toprovide a simple and inexpensive compound of this character which will quickly and efficiently destroy the worms, and at the same time serve as both an astringent and antiseptic to the wound.
The compound consists of the following ingredients, combined in about the proportions stated: Chloroform, three ounces; alcohol, three ounces; tincture asafetida, two ounces; carbolic acid, one ounce.
In compounding the ingredients the chloroform, alcohol, and tincture asafetida are first mixed together and the carbolic acid then in a position such as will enable the wound to hold the fluid, and the Wound mopped out with cotton or other suitable substance, when the compound is poured into the Wound.
The efficiency and use of our invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains. The compound will quickly and thoroughly exterminate screw-worms or maggots, and will serve to 35 keep the Wound free from blow-fliesJ The compound also possesses the properties of both D. R. HULL, W. J. DYER.
