Description

` nying drawings, forming part of this specifica- 'Nirnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
s. W. H. WARD, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN COLORED-PAPER SHIRT-COLLARS. f
specification forming'part; of Letters Patent No. 43,728, datcd .iugust `2, '1864.
To all u'hom it may concern Be it known that I, S. 7. H. WARD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in the Manufacture of Paper Uollars j. and I do here by declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thercof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being' had to the accompation, said drawing representing a perspective View of a collar made according to my invention. z
i This invention consists in apaper collar colored in imitation of colored collars of linen, muslin, or other textile fabries either by printing or other suitable means in such a manner that said paper collars will takethe same relation toward the ordinary colored collars of textile fabrics which the white paper collars take toward the ordinary white eollars of textile fabries, and a cheap colored collar can be produeed which, when new and fresh, will form a good substitute for the colored collars of textile fabrics. p
The value of a paper collar as a substitute for a collar ot' textile fabries consists, chiefly, in thatit looks quite as well as the textile collar when clean and fresh, and when dirty it can be thrown away without loss, because the washing' ofan ordinary textile collar costs just as much, or nearly so, as it costs to buy one of the paper eollars, and particularly for trav- Heretofore all paper collars have been made white, and notwithstanding the factthat many persons, particularly travelers, prefer to wear shirts of colored goods with corresponding colllars, no colored paper collars have been heretofore manufactured. ln order to fill this wantI have produced a collar, A, made of paper printed in imitation to the printed 'or otherwise colored textile fabrics generally used for colored shirts or collars, and my colored paper collars form a perfect substitute for oidinary colored collars ot' textile' fabrics. They are produced in the same variety of colors as the ordinary colored eollars, and they can be worn precisely in the same way as the ordinary white paper collars.
I do not wish to eonfine myself in Ithe manufaeture of the colored-paper collars to any particular manner of coloring', and I reservc the right to apply the color by any convenient means and to change the color as I. may select.
1 elaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as a new article of manufacture- A colored paper collar made as set forth.
