Description

" F. CONDE.
GARMENT.
APPucATloN mep JULY 6.1915.
1,191,064. Patentemuly n, 1916. F2011 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERIC COND, 0F OSWEGO, NEW YORK.
GARMENT.
` Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1916.
Application led July 8, 1915. Serial No. 38,821.
to the figures of reference marked thereon.
My'invention relates to improvements in garments, and more particularly to knitted undergarments, such as shirts, union suits, or any garments having a neck portion provided with a collaret.
The particular object ofthe present inl vention is to of collaret.
Heretofore, it has been customary to provide undergarments with attached collarets, and my invention is particularly an improvement thereon, whereby a unique and ornamental effect is produced.
The invention consists primarily in feeding in to the collaret strip in the process of manufacture a comparatively wide stripe provide a novel construction composed of threads of different colors' andtexture from the body ofthe collaret, the effect of which is to give a unique and ornamental appearance to the collaret. Fur! thermore, the fed-in stripe furnishes a contrast in color and texture. It is also preferably raised above the surface of the surrounding portion of the colla-ret and is located considerably nearer the inner than the outer edge thereof. l
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying dra-wings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a garment with a collaret constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a view of the collaret' detached; Fig. 3 is a side view of the collai'et with the invention applied.v
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a portion of,` the body of an undeishirt to which my inel vention has been applied; and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the collaret strip. 4
In these drawings, 1 i'e'presentsthe body of an undershirt, to which has been stitched a. fiat collaret 2, shown in detail in Fig. 2. i
This fiat collaret is'made in a flat strip and in its formation on the knitting machiney between the edge andthe fold in the strip.
This stripe is indicated at v3 in the drawings. The threads are preferably so fed in asto form a ridge or raised portion. This raised stripe, which is formed of threads of better quality, strengthens and reinforces the collaret andl serves the purpose of retaining the neck of the garment in proper shape. Inasmuch as the threads forming the stripe are of different texture and may be of different coloring, there is also an ornamental effect in the finishing of the collaret upon the neck 0f the garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A garmenty having a folded Collaret strip, said collaret strip having incorporated within it a stripe formed of threads of different character and appearance -extending'longitudinally of the collaret strip,
-located between the edge of the strip and the fold therein and serving to strengthen and reinforce and ornament said collaret.
A' garment having a folded collaret strip, said collaret strip having incorporated within it a wide stripe formed of threads of better quality extending lon itudina-lly of the collaret strip and locate between the edge of the stripand the fold therein, saidA stripe being raised above the adjacent surface of the collaret and serving to strengthen and reinforce said collaret.
In testimony whereof, I atiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
