Description

(No Model.)
B. F. WILSON.
HEEL
Patented Sent. 16, 1890.
Qwmwm UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. WVILSON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO BENJAMIN P. OLEMENTS, OF SAME PLACE.
HEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,553, dated September 16, 1890.
Application filed April 11, 1890. Serial No. 3&7,504=. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. \VILSON, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented" cert-ain new and useful 5 Improvements in Rubber Heels for Boots or Shoes,-of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has for its object to provide certain new and useful improvements in a rubber top lift for heels for shoes; and it consists in a solid block of rubber having upon its face a series of curvilinear corrugations sitr 5 uated at a sufficient distance from the rear of the heel, and an exterior Wearing surface or portion; and it also consists in means whereby the said lift is secured to the shoe, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my complete invention as applied to a shoe; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal eross-section of the rubber lift, also applied to a shoe.
Referring to the drawings by numbers, 1
2 5 represents a solid block of rubber of a shape to conform with the surface of the heel of a shoe. The block of rubber l is provided with a series of curvilinear corrugations 3, forming grooves 4 between them. In the rear of the corrugations 3 a solid portion 2 is left, by
which means a better wearing-surface is accomplished where it is most needed. Upon the edge of the lift 1 are cut or formed angular openings 5, at a sufficient distance from the upper and lower surfaces thereof, which open- 3 5 ings are provided with holes for the purpose of inserting screws or tacks 6 for securing it to the shoes. A suflicient number of screws 6 may be inserted between the corrugations as a further means of fastening.
My invention is intended to be fastened to I the heels of ordinary boots or shoes nowin use, producing not only a neat and attractive appearance, but overcoming the jar to the body produced by the solid leather heel. It is also very desirable in sleety weather, and, in fact, can be used universally with perfect satisfaction.
Having fully described my invention,'what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, the herein-described rubber top lift for heels for boots or shoes, consisting of a series of curvilinear corrugations 3, substantially of the con- 5 5 figuration of the heel, and an exterior solid portion 2, and provided with countersunk openings 5, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. WILSON.
