Description

(No Model.)
W. M. BROWN.
RAIL CHAIR.
No. 436,680. Patented Sept. 2. 1890.
Wilma sses:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM MILTON BROIVN, OF J OHNSTOVVN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE JOHNSON COMPANY, OF KENTUCKY.
RAIL-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,680, dated September 2, 1890. Application filed February 28, 1889- Serial No. 301,533. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM MILTON BROWN, of J ohnstown, in the county of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful RaiLChair', which invention is fully set forth and illustrated in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide a To rail-chairwith a clip by which the foot of the rail may be clamped to the chair.
The invention will first be described in detail and then particularly set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a chair in end elevation, having rail shown in cross-section secured thereto by the clip and key consituting the subject of this invention. Fig. 2 shows the parts of Fig. 1
in side elevation. Fig. 3 shows parts of Fig.
1 in plan, the rail and brace part of chair being cut away above the line 00 x of Fig. 1.
In said figures the several parts are indicated by letters of reference, and are described 2 5 as follows:
The letter A indicates the rail; B, the chair proper; G, the clip, andD the clip-key. The chair B is provided with a slot on one side,
through which the foot of the clip containing the seat for the key is inserted, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The clip O being thus inserted in place, with its lip or jaw over the foot of the rail, is forced home and held fast from working out by driving the key D to a close lit in its seat against the side of the 3 5 chair and the lug d of the clip D.
I do not claim the particular form of bracechair shown, and it is evident that a clip or clips C may be used on each side of a railchairinstead of on one side only, thus dispens- 4:: ing with the upper brace part of the chair entirely.
Having thus fully described my said railchair as of my invention, I claim- 1. A box rail-chair provided with a side clip entering through one of the vertical sides of said chair and keyed to the same bya key securing its bearing between an upturned portion of said clip and the corner of the chair formed by the rail-seat and one side.
2. In combination with a rail having lower flanges, a box-chair having two vertical sides and provided with a side clip entering through one of said sides and keyed to the chair by a key securin g its bearing between an upturned 5 5 portion of said clip and the corner of the chair formed by the rail-seat and one side.
WILLIAM MILTON BROWN.
