SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,406, dated September 2, 1890. Application filed February 3, 1890. Serial No. 339,036. (N0 model.)

To all whmn it may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMON DANOYGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio,haveinvented a certain-new and useful Improvement in Marking-Tags; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in marking-tags, which is an improvement on Patent No. 379,054, of date March 6, 1888, and

the features of which invention will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of my invention is to the better protect the base of the wire clasp, so that when attached to merchandise nothing of theclasp will be exposed to view but the point, and in the bending down of which there is no liability of the base of the clasp being bent back from the paper, as the back fold secures the same in position. I accomplish the object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a top View of the tag and with the fold 3 detached, or as it appears before the folding. Fig. II is a side view of the tag. Fig. III is a view of the tag as completely folded.

The numerals on the several figures designate like parts.

The strip of paper is divided into three parts. Part 1 has a round orifice 6 and a semicircular orifice 5 to receive in folding the point of the clasp 4. Part 2 is a blank piece of the size of the former, and to the right end of which is the fold 3. (Shown detached and folded in Fig. I.) The wire clasp 4 is first formed as a staple and punctures the fold or part 3, one prong of which is bent down on the paper, as shown at 4, Fig. II. The part 3 is bent down onto part 2, and is there secured by paste, and thus the part 2 forms a firm backing for the base of the clasp.

The dotted line shows the point of folding of the parts 1 and 2.

At Fig. III the tag is shown as folded when attached to merchandise.

In attaching the tag to an article the same is bent over the edge and the point made to enter the orifices 6 and 5, and with the thumb the point is flattened down against the part 1, and is then securely fastened. 011 the external surface is marked the size, number, and price of the article to which it is attached.

A paper marking-tag having the three folding parts 1, 2, and 3, and the wire clasp 4,11e1d within said part 3 and backed by said part 2, substantially as shown and described.
