(No Model.)
F. B. RHODES & J. CAMPBELL. SEPARABLB BUTTON.
No. 434,202. Patented Au 12, 1890.
WWW
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK B RHODES AND JAMES CAMPBELL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND,
' ASSIGNORS TO OREN C. DEVEREUX, OF SAME PLACE.
SEPARABLE BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,202, dated August 12, 1890.
Application filed June 14:, 1890- Serial No. 355,494. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK B. RHODES and JAMES CAMPBELL, citizens of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of 5 Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Studs, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of the parts of the stud, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the stud. Fig. 2 represents the head and the attached post in elevation, with the shoe in central section, as taken in the plane m or of Fig.
I 3. Fig. 3 represents a plan View of the shoe, with the perforated front plate removed to show the internal mechanism of the shoe. Fig. 4 represents a front view of the supporting-plate of the shoe. Fig. 5 represents an edge view of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the head of the stud; B, the post provided at its lower end with the annular groove a, which is adapted for engagement with the 2 5 sliding catches C C of the shoe. The shoe D is formed of the plate I), which is struck up with the rim f, the supporting-plate c, which is struck up with the raised portions d d d, which serve to support the front plate e, the
several parts being secured together by turning over the edge of the rim f. The plate 0 is also provided with a perforation adapted to receive the lower end h of the post 13.
In the recess 2', between the raised portions 3 5 d d and d of the plate 0, are placed the sliding catches C C, which are forced together by means of the bow-springj. The catches C C are provided with the projecting cars 70, which serve to form a bearing for the end of the springj, and are also provided with the horns m, which project into the recess 1; between the raised portions d (Z, the said horns being provided with an inclined face a, which is adapted for engagement with a correspondingly-inclined face upon the wedge-formed pusher E, which also occupies the recess 1'', and extends outward by a narrower portion 0 through an elongated perforation made in the rim f. Then the post B is in locked engagement With the catches C C, then by push- 5o ing inwardly upon the outer end of the wedgeformed pusher E the catches will be separated to release the post, the said pusher being thereafter returned to its outward position by the resilience of the spring j.
\Ve claim as our invention- The combination, with the head A and post B, of the shoe D, provided with the plate 19, having a rim f, the perforated supportingplate 0, the catches C C, provided with the horns m, having the inclined surfaces n, the springj, the wedge-formed pusher E, and the perforated front plate e, substantially as described.
FRANK B. RHODES. JAMES CAMPBELL.
