WAGON-SEAT RISER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,183, dated August 12, 1890.

To all whom it may cmwern:
Be it known that we, JONATHAN HANDY and WILLIAM D. SHERMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in WVagon-Seat Risers, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to wagon-seats, and particularly to that part which is commonly called the riser, and its object is to produce a seat-riser by means of which the seat may be securely clamped to the wagon-box.
Heretofore wagon-seat risers have been con-. structed with feet to rest and slide on the edge of the wagon-box, or the risers have been provided with a pin to enter holes in the edge of the wagon-box. Both of these forms are obj ection able, for thereason that a sudden jolt is liable to throw the seat from its position, or a sudden start of the team is liable to throw the rear seat and its occupants over backward to the ground.
The accompanying drawings illustrate our invention, in which Figure 1 represents a view in perspective of our improved seat-riser; and Fig. 2 represents a view in cross-section of the same, showing the construction and operation of the clamping device.

A wagon-seat riser composed of cast metal, adapted to be secured to theseat by bolts or screws, and having three feet adapted to rest on and embrace the edge of the wagon-box, and having the middle foot composed of the part It, having the part b pivoted thereto, and provided with the bolt 6 and hand-nut (Z,whereby the corrugated projections g are caused to clamp the edge of the wagon-box and hold the seat firmly in position,as shown and described.
