Description

D. L. McDE RMID.
CHECK-HOOK. No.175,0Z5. Patented Apri1l1. 1876.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOEL DONALD L. MCDERMID, OF ORION, MICHIGAN.
-|MPROVEMENT IN CHECK-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,025, dated April 11, 1876; application filed October 5, 1875.
v To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, DONALD L. MGDERMID, of Orion, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Check-Hooks for Harness, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to so construct and apply the cheek-hookto the back-strap of a harness as to prevent it from tearing out, and which will cost less than a check-hook fastened with a screw-bolt in the ordinary way. The invention consists in casting the base of the hook with a cross-bar, which is inserted between the back-strap and its lay or cover. At each end of said cross-bar is a pendent lug, which passes into a hole through the back-strap, the covering-strap being then stitched down to place.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hook in position. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the hook in perspective, looking at it from below.
In the drawing, A represents a check-hook cast with a cross-bar, B, at its base. From each end of said crossbar a pendent stud, 0!,
projects into a hole punched in the back-strap 0. The covering-strap-or lay O is then laid on the back-strap, over the base of the hook, and stitched to place, which will keep the hook from pulling out.
The hook that is fastened to the back-strap by a screw-boltdn the usual way, aside from costing more than this, is objectionable, from the fact that the nut is apt to work loose, while the bolt-hole so weakens the strap that it readily tears out.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with the back-strap G and covering-strap O, of the check-hook A, cast with the cross-bar B and studs a a, said crossbar being covered and held down by said covering-strap, substantially as described and shown.
DONALD L. MGDERMID.
