AXLE-BOX LID.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,987, dated August 12, 1890.
Application filed November 8, 1889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE K. KELSEA, a citizen of Detroit, county of Vayne, State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Railroad-Oar Axle-Box Lid, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
.The object of my invention is to provide an axle-box lid that can be easily attached to the box, is strong, easily opened, will not remain open when the car is in motion, will not rattle, and is dust-proof.
The annexed drawings. to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
Figure l represents a side elevation of the aXle-boX, showing position of knob. Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing shape of knobs. Figs. 3 to 5 show perspective views of the plate and rod of which the lid is composed, Fig. 3 showing plate,Fig. 5 showing the rod separately, and Fig. 4 showing the two combined forming the lid. Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the lid attached and closed. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the lid attached and open.

To illustrate more in detail, Fig. 3 shows plate D bent up at the sides, having perforations Z7 b therein,through which rodO is passed, as shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 5 shows rod as it is bent after having been run through perforations b b on plate D. It is then in shape ready to be closed around knobs a. a on the axle-box.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a car-axle box, the combination of the axle-box provided with knobs a a, with the lid-having upturned sides and having perforations therein, and a rod passed through said perforations and clasped by its ends around the knobs, substantially as described.
