SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,976, dated August 12, 1890. Application filed August 20, 1389. Serial No. 321,372. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN BRUNN, 0f Munich, Bavaria, Germany, have invented an Improved Parallel-Ruler, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a top View of my improved parallel-ruler. Fig. II is a cross-section on line z z, Fig. I. Fig. III is a similar cross-section showing modifications. Fig. IV is a longitudinal section at the center 0f the roller b. l
To a ruler a a rollerb is connected, running in vertical slots c of the bearings d, attached to the ruler. The surface of the roller vis slightly roughened, to prevent its slipping upon the smooth paper, and at one endof said roller a graduated ring e is arranged, against which a pointer f, attached to the bearing d, points for the purpose of regulating the distance of the parallel lines to be drawn, as may be desired.
Il the ruler is to be arranged to draw a regular xed distance of parallel lines, the surface of the roller?) may be made with regular depressions n and raised parts m, as shown in Fig. III, or cavities 7; may be made in one end of the roller b, into Which a spring-lever Z, attached to the bearing d, works. A slot g is made in the ruler a, in which a slide g works, capable ofY being fastened in any position by a screw i. To this slide g a needle-pointed spring h is attached, projecting some little distance over the front edge of the ruler.
When perpendicular lines are to be drawn, the spring h is moved over the point from Where the perpendicular line is to begin and the ruler moved .toward the top or bottom of the paper, when, by means of the needlepoint, an impression is made in the paper, when the perpendicular lines can be drawn by connecting the two points.
What I claim is- The combination of slotted ruler d with .bearings d, and roller b journaled in said HERMANN BRUNN.
