AUTOMATIC SWINGING STRAW-STCKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,724, dated July 8, 1890.
Application filed April 16 1890. Serial No. 348,150. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY R. NAGLna citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Ridge, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Swinging Straw-Stackers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and figures of reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a horizontal section of the strawstacker, taken on line 1 of Fig. 2, looking down, showing a plan of the oscillating frame for supportin g the straw-carrier and of the devices for oscillating said frame and its carrier and showing the frame supporting the straw-carrier oscillated part way around to show more clearly how it operates; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the straw-stacker, showing the position of the carrier in line with the bedframe.
This invention relates to certain improvements in automatic swinging straw-stackers of the class designed to receive straw from a thrashing-machine and conduct it rearward and discharge it on the top of a stack while swinging or oscillating from side to side, causing the stack to be in a crescent or semicircular form, and is intended to be improvements uponthe automatic swinging straw-stacker for which Letters Patent of the United States No. 323,036, of date February l1, 1890, were granted to me; and the said improvements relate, principally, to the mechanism for manipulating and adjusting the straw-carrier to its work.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the bed-frame of the machine, having the crossbeams numbered from l to 5, both inclusive, for supporting the working parts of the Inachine, and said frame is supported on suitable truck-wheelsformaking the lnachine portable.
B is a worm-wheel boxed on cross-beam 5. Aworm g on shaft S meshes with worm-wheel B to drive it, and said worm and its shaft are driven by means of drive-belt B through the medium of sprocket-wheel W,sprocket'chain W2, pulley YV on shaft r2, and a sprocket-wheel (Shown in broken lines in Fig. l.)
D is a circular base boxed at its center on vertical shaft J, upon which it turns and rests at itscenter on cross-,beam 6, supported by cross-beams l 2 3, and at its outer sides on a suitable number of friction-rollers K, disposed at proper intervals to maintain said base in proper position. Said base D has secured on its Vupper surface the centrally-located crossbeam E and alsoA the cross-beam F', located at one side of beam D nearone side of said base.

H H are arms respectively pivoted near their centers to the side of posts Z Z on a shaft bearing the sprocket-wheel W3. The outer extending ends of said arms support the inner end of the carrier-frame C2 by being journaled on a shaft passing through said frame bearing sprocket-Wheel 74, and their lower inner ends have attached to them the cords or chains i, that connect them to the windlassshaft a6, having the crank, upon which shaft said cords are wound. A ratchet and pawl prevent backward rotation of said crankshaft.
F F are arms having their inner ends respectivelypivoted tothe postsLL. These arms F F are provided at their outer extending ends with flanged friction-wheels R, upon which wheels R the outer end of the carrier-frame C2 rests and moves forward and rearward.
The outer ends of the arms F F are supported .and elevated and lowered by means of the cords or chains V V, attached to said arms near their outer ends and passing from said point'of fastening over pulleys P P3 to the windlass-shaft a, having the crank d2, by means of which Windlass-shaft said cords or chains V V may be wound or unwound to elevate and lower the outer end of the carrierframe C2. The carrier-frame C2 is provided on its under side with inclined tracks C', upon which the anged wheels R roll, which/preventthe outer end of the carrier-frame from descending while being moved rearward by means of operating-arm H for said purpose.
It will be observed that the carrier-frame is supported entirely on the extending outer IOO ends of the arms I-I and F and may be elevated and depressed and moved forward or rearward and held in any desired position by said arms, so that they are operated by their cords and Windlass mechanism, and that by means of the inclined tracks C the carrier-frame C2 may be moved endwise in a straight line for a considerable distance by the arms I-I alone without operating arms F. The carrier-belt Y is driven from belt B on pulley Wthrough the medium of shafts r2 J, bevel-gears D D2 D6 D7, sprocket-Wheels r, W3'7 and W4, andy of the bed-frame andits forward-end may rest on the oscillating frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to Wit:
1. In the swinging straw-stacker shown and described, the combination of the oscillating base D, frame E F S, pitman e, Worm t Wormwheel B, crank C, posts L Z, arms I-I, arms F, having the flanged friction-wheels R, cords V and z', pulleys P P3, Windlass-shafts a and a, and the carrier-frame C2, having the inclined tracks C', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In the swinging straw-stacker shown and described, the combination of the carrierframe C2, having the inclined tracks C', rms II, arms F, having the flanged friction-Wheels R on their outer extending ends, cords i and V, and Windlass-shafts a and a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
