B. M. JOHNSON& J. REIGHERT.- GOMBINED'BREAST STRAP SLIDEAND SNAP.
No. 431,589. Patented July 8," 1890.
- UNITED TSTATEST' PATENT HOFFICE;
'BE NT M. JOHNSON AND JOHN REIICH'ERT, oFfJ nAoINE, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED BREAST-STRAPISLIDEAND 'S'NA'P.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 431,589, dated July 8, 1890. Application filed October 3, 1889. Serial No. 325,941. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, BERNT M. J oHNsoN and JOHN REICHERT, citizens of the United States, residing at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Neck-Yoke Snap and Slide; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combined neckyoke snap and slide for connecting the neckyoke with a slide-strap or supporting-strap of the harness; and the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of the neck-yoke snap and slide, showing the snap-hook engaged with the eye of the neck-yoke, a part only of the supporting-strap being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View of the neck-yoke snap, the slide, and a part of the supporting-strap. Fig. 3 is a front view or edge view of the neck-yoke snap removed from the frame of the slide. Fig. 4 is aview in perspective of the tongue of the snap removed from the hook of the same. Fig. 5 is a side view of the spiral expanding-spring removed from its place between the upper end of the hook and the tongue of the snap.
The object of the invention is to provide a secure and inexpensive device of the class mentioned, and one that may be quickly and easily connected with the eye at the end of the neck-yoke, and after having been so connected cannot be accidentally disconnected, but may be designedly disengaged from said eye without inconvenience or trouble to the attendant at the proper time.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the attaching-strap, which is passed under the convex or lower side of the yoke or body portion of the slide B and up through the slots or loops 0 C at the upper ends of the yoke or body portion of the slide. At its lower concavo-convex part D the body portion of the slide Bis pro vided with integral depending lugsor ears E F, which form bearings for the journals G G at the ends of the flaring or enlarged recessed portion H of the stem I of the hook K.
The tongue L is provided with an integral cross-head M, which is seated in bearings Q Q at the ends of the recess R of the portion H, and is cast loosely therein, but is not removable therefrom. The journals G G at the ends of the recessed portion H are also cast loosely in their seats in the depending lugs or ears E F, and are not removable therefrom, although permitting the parts suspended thereby to have the necessary articulating movement under circumstances that produce it. The journals mayalso be simply a loose pin running through the upper portion of the stem 1.
In the front face of the rear wall of the recess R of the part or portion H is provided a circular seat or depression S, which receives the rear end of the spiral expanding-spring T, the front end of said spring T encircling a stud or pin U, projecting rearwardly from the concave face of the hinged tongue L, and normally pressing said tongue L outwardly, causing the outer portion at its lower end to engage the shouldered end X of the upturned point of the hook K. o
To put the eye Y of the neck-yoke intothe hook K, it is only necessary to press one side of the said eye against the tongue of the snap, which will cause the latter to be pressed in ward, and will permit the eye of the neckyoke to drop into position in the bottom of the hook, and as soon as the eye of the neckyoke has slipped past the lower end of the tongue to its normal position, which is the engaged position with the shouldered point of the hook, and will thus securely retain said eye Y in place within the hook until the former is designedly removed. From its outer rounded edge at its lower end the tongue has integral parallel sides a, which terminate in rounded points I), which lap the stem of the hook and pass beyond it when said hinged tongue is pressed rearward or away from the point of the hook.
Having described our invention, what we claim is 1. The combination, with the slotted breast- .strap slide having depending ears, of a hook pressed tongue having the arms at its upper hook, and a spring for normally pressing the end journaled in the recess in the cross-head outer endof said tongue against the point of of the hook, substantially as specified. said hook, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the breast-strap In testimony whereof we affix our signa- 5 slide, of the hook having arecessed cross-head tures in presence of two witnesses.
provided with hearings in the recess and a BERNT M. JOHNSON. tongue having a cross-head and journaled in 7 JOHN REIOHERT. V the recessed cross -head of the hook, said Witnesses:
