JEAN KLEY, 0E NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED TARGET AND TOY GUN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,457, dated J' une 3, 1890. Application tiled November 29, liiSQ. Serial No. 331,958. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN KLEY, of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Targets and Toy Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a combined target and toy gun which is intended for childrens use, and so arranged that it can be conveniently folded up and stored away after use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a side elevation of my improved combined target and toy gun shown in position for use. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, of the same, showing it folded up and stored away in the box, which latter is shown in section.
Similar letters'ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents a target of any approved construction, preferably of the kind in which a movable figure appears above the target when a center shot on the bulls-eye has been made. The target A is supported on an upright standard A', which is hinged at its lower end to a folding frame B. The frame B is composed of two or more sections that are connected by hinges b b, so as to permit the folding up of said frame on said hinges, as shown in Fig. 3, so that the entire structure can be packed away into a box or other suitable receptacle after use. `When the folding frame B is extended for use, the base of the target is locked to the same by means of a pivot-hook b and eye b2, (shown in Fig. 1,) or by any other vsuitable locking device. AThe frame B is provided at its under side with suitable feet, 0n which it rests when in use.
To the opposite end of the folding frameB is applied a toy gun C, which may be made of any approved construction. The toy gun C is applied to a base-plate D, which is pivoted at its inner end to the folding frame B, and which is guided by means of arc-shaped slots d at the outer end on headed studs d of the folding frame B. The pivoted base-plate D is not only adapted to swing laterally on its pivot dx as far as the arc-shaped slot d will permit, but is also adapted to swing vertically on the Shanks of the headed studs d',
as shown in Fig. 3. Snflicient play is thereby given to the toy gun to permit the proper aiming of the same. The base-blate D 1s provided with a curved tail end D', that is eX- tended beyond the folding frame B and is provided with a trigger D2, by which the spring-actuated piston of the toy gun can be locked in position or released for throwing the dart or other missile E. When the trigger is pulled back against the tail end D of the plate D, the spring-piston is released and thrown forward and thereby the dart thrown against the target A. The dartE is connected by a string e with an eye e near the base ot the target A, and thereby prevented from getting lost. Thelateral and vertical motion of the supporting base-plate D of the toy gun C is kept within such limits that the nilssile can never strike outside of the circumference of the target, whereby any danger of accident to the children is prevented, because the trajectory of the dart is confined within fixed limits.
Any approved construction of toy gun may be used, as I do not confine myself to the special construction shown. Owing to the facility of folding up the toy baseframe the toy gun can be readily stored away after use and also conveniently shipped, it forming, when extended for use, a miniature shootinggaller f, whichffurn-ishes considerable amusement for children.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a combined target and toy gun, the combination of a supporting base-frame, a baseplate pivoted to said frame, headed studs on the frame engaging arc-shaped slots of the plate, a toy gun attached to said base-plate, a curved tail-piece extending in backward direction from the supporting-plate, and a trigger arranged below said tail end and adapted to engage or release the spring-piston of the toy gun, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JEAN KLEY. Witnesses:
PAUL GOEPEL, MARTIN PETRY.
