G. ARMENY.
FOUNTAIN PEN.
No. 429,405. Patented June 3, 1890.
IlEiiHHI H. 0 T N E ATTORNEYS,
WITNESSES:
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GYULO ARMENY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOUNTAIN-PEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,405, dated June 3,1890.
Application filed January 22, 1889. Serial No. 297,160. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GrYULO ARMENY, of the city, county, and State of New York, acitizen of the Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a fountain-pen in which the feed-tube can be detached for cleaning and replaced without soiling the fingers.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent vertical central sections of my improved fountain-pen taken 011 the lines- 00 m and y y, Fig. 4.. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the pen-socket of the same; and Fig. 4, a horizontal section on line 2 a, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the reservoir and B the sleeve of the same, which is screwed into the end of the reservoir A and provided withastop-shoulder b. The feed-tube Ois inserted by its cylindrical endinto the pen-socket B, so as to proj ect into the reservoirA,the inner edge of the feed-tube being rounded oil": at the inner end, so as to facilitate the passage of the ink from the same to the outer end or supply-spout C of the feedtube 0. The spout O is tapered and constitutes a contin uation of the feed-tube and extends beyond the sleeve B, forming contact with the pen, so as to supply the ink to the same. The spout C of the feed-tube is provided in the'usual manner with an opening b at that side of the spout adjoining the under side of the pen, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. The feed-tube G is provided at its upper side opposite the inner end of the opening of the spout Cwithacomplete arc-shaped pen-socket cl, for inserting the pen D and supporting it independently of.
the sleeve. This pen-socket of the feed-tube O is split longitudinally by a central longi tudinal slit (1, whereby a certain degree of elasticity is imparted to the socket for adapting it to different thicknesses of pens. When the penis inserted into the feed-tube C, so as to form contact with the open side of the spout C, the sleeve A eXertsa bindingaction on the pen in addition to the clamping action of the split socket of the feed-tube C, and the pen is thereby firmly and reliably held in position.
The cleaning of the penis accomplished by unscrewing the sleeve, removing the feedthe disagreeable soiling of the fingers with ink in handling the parts of a fountain-pen in filling the reservoir and cleaning the parts of the fountain-pen is avoided and a more effective and satisfactory fountain-pen obtained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.. The combination of a reservoir-holder, a detachable sleeve thereon, and a detachable feed-tube within said sleeve, said feed-tube being provided with a longitudinal arc-shaped slot forming a complete pen-socket at the upper side of the tube, and with a tapered spout which constitutes a continuation of said tube and projects beyond said sleeve, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a reservoir-holder, a detachable sleeve thereon, and a detachable feed-tube within said sleeve, said feed-tube being provided with a longitudinal arc-shaped slot forming a complete pen-socket at the upper side of the tube, and with a tapered spout which constitutes a continuation of said tube and projects beyond said sleeve, said pen-socket being split longitudinally on its upper side, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
I I GYULO ARMENY. Witnesses:
