MUSICAL ALBUM.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,795, dated May 2'7, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IWAN YON AUW, of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Musical Albums, of which the following is a speciiication This invention relates to improvements in that class of albums which are provided with a music-box which plays airs as soon as the album is opened.

Heretofore the compartment for the musicbox was provided between the covers and occupied a considerable part of the space usually provided for pictures, thus permitting of placing only comparatively few pictures into the album unless the thickness of the same was increased beyond all proportion.

The object of my invention is to provide a musical album in which the ordinary number of pictures can be placed without unduly increasing the thickness of the album between the covers.

The invention consists in the album, one of the covers of which is thickened and provided with a recess for receiving the musicbox.

The invention also consists inthe construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and linally pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an end view of my improved album, partly open and parts being in section. Fig. 2 is a viewof the in ner face ot' the cover containing the music-box, parts being broken out.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The album is constructed with the covers A and B, the leaves C for receiving the pictures, and the back D.l The cover A is padded and finished in the usual manner, and the cover B is made of wood, pasteboard, or other suitable material, and is increased in thickness and provided with a recess E in the inner face, into which the musical box F or other suitable music-producing instrument is placed. On the inner face ot' the cover an additional cover G is hinged, which is provided with a glass plate H, through which the music-box can be seen.

' By arranging and constructing the parts in the manner described and shown the space for the usual number of pictures is retained, and, furthermore, the cover or casing of the album can be made independent of thc leaves, whereas in the musical albums constructed heretofore the leaves had to be adjusted especially for each album.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters yPatent- In a musical album, the combination of two covers, of which one is thicker than the other, the thicker cover being provided with a recess in its inner surface, an additional cover provided on the inner surface of the recessed cover for the purpose of closing said recess, a glass plate in said additional cover, and a series of album-leaves mounted to swing ou the back, uniting the two covers, substantially as set forth.
