To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. G. Lo- SERE, of the city, county, and State of New York,a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telescopic Bags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved telescopic bag which can be readily filled by opening the top in the same manner as a satchel, so as to facilitate thereby the packing and storing of articles in the bag and. the removing of the same from the bag, which has the double advantage of being extensible and of being accessible from the top without detaching the parts of the same.

The invention consists of a telescopic bag which is composed of an upper and a lower section, the upper section being provided with hinged lids having downwardly-bent flanges at the ends that lap over the end walls of the upper section, the overlapping lid being provided with a re-enforcing bar and with a handle-strap and with means for locking the overlapping lid to the end walls of the upper section, as will be fully described here inafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.

To the re-entorcing bar 0 of the overlapping lid O is provided a handle-strap D, which is guided in loops 6 e, the handle-strap D being extended over the end flanges d d and provided with slits in the extension D, said slitted extension being applied to fixed studs F on the end walls of the upper section 13, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The lids O C are then closed and the sections of the bag united by means of straps g, which are extended around thesame, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The extensions of the handle-strap D are then applied to the studs (1, and thereby the lids firmly connected to the end walls of the upper section. The upper section B is re-enforced at its upper part by an interior metal frame f, which also serves as a shoulder, against which the lower sectionA abuts when the same is entirely moved into the outer section B.

In place of connecting the extensions of the handle-strap with the studs on the end walls of the upper section any other device for connecting the overlapping lid 0 with the end walls of the section B may be used, as I do not desire to confine myself to the connection of the handle-strap with the studs, as shown in the drawings. I

My telescopic bag has the advantage that it can be opened like a so-called cabin-bag by disconnecting the fastening -straps and locking devices of the lids, so that the latter can be opened, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, for conveniently packing or removing the articles. It can be extended so as to permit a larger number of articles to be packed in the same. At the same time it can be supplied at nearly the same price at which telescopic bags of this class are generally sold.

Having thus described my invent-ion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a lower telescoping bag-section, an upper bag-section extending around the same, hinged lids applied to the upper section, the overlapping lid having a re-enforeing bar, a handle-strap attached to said bar, fastening-straps extending around both sections, and means for attaching the overlapping lid to the end walls of the upper section, as set forth.

2. The combination of a lower telescoping bag-section, an upper bag-section surroundin g the same, hinged lids applied to the upper section, said lids having dmvnwardly-bent flanges at the ends, a re-enforeing bar attached to the overlapping lid, said bar being bent at the ends for re-eniorein g the bent ends, a handle-strap attached to the re-enforcing bar, and fastening-straps extending around both sections, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination of a lower telescoping bag-section, an upper bag-section extending around the same and being provided with an interior re-enforeing frame at its upper edge, hinged lids applied to the upper bag-section, the overlapping lid being provided with a re enforcing bar, and fastening-straps extending around both sections, substantially as set forth.
