SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,438, dated April 15, 1890.
Application filed July 81, 1889. Serial No. 319 34281 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM LODGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Machine Drills; and Ido hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in upright power machine drills or drill presses, and particularly to means for moving and adjusting the work-table.
The object of my invention is to devise means whereby the work-table may be easily and conveniently moved up and down and sidewise by manipulation from the front of the machine.
The invention consists, essentially, in providing a vertical screw for raising and lowering the work-table and providing bevel-wheels and a hand-shaft for operating the device at the front of the press.

B is the base-plate of the press 5 P, its post or column; C, a base-collar on the column P (1', a post-collar above the work-table; and A is the table-bracket, which is supported by the boss D, embracing the column P. The bracket A has a boss E at its extremity for the pivot of the table T, and the bracket is made in halves and bolted together and to the column P by means of the bolts 15. A shaft at extends horizontally along the right side of the bracket A to a convenient point for using a handle, and has one bearing in the casing 6 and another in boss 12, which is supported by an arm 13, cast integral with the bracket A. This shaft projects into the casing 6 and has a bevel 3 fastened thereon by means of a taper pin 7, Fig. 2, driven in a hole 8, Fig. 3, and this bevel 3 engages and drives the nut-bevel 2. By turning the handle 17, Fig. 1, the nut-bevel 2 may be made to run up or down on the stationary screw 1, and thus raise or lower the bracket A and its table T. The handle and shaft 4: being free, the table may be turned about the column P by pushing it sidewise without disturbing the vertical adjustment of the table. The nutbevel may be placed above or below the bevel 3; but the machine willbe more compact when it is placed above the bevel 3. Fig. 2 shows the nut-bevel 2 so placed. In Fig. 3 the nutbevel is placed below and to show such modification, but more particularly to show plainly the face of the teeth of one of the bevels in some one figure.
I claim- 1. In a power machine drill, the combination of the main-frame column, a table-bracket mounted and turning thereon, an upright screw held against rotation by suitable means, a rotating nut suitably housed and supported by the table-bracket and working on the said screw, bevel-wheels for operating the nut, and suitable means for driving the bevels, substantially as set forth.
2. In a power machine drill, the combination of th e in ain-fram e column, a table-bracket mounted and turning thereon, a screw held against rotation and vertical by attached end guiding and sliding bearing-blocks arranged to bear against the surfaces of the drill-column, a rotating nut suitably housed and supported by the table-bracket and working on the said screw, bevel-Wheels for operating the nut, and suitable means for driving the bevels,
substantially as set forth.
3. In a power machine drill, the combination of the main-frame column, a table-bracket mounted and turning thereon, an upright screw held against rotation by suitable means, a rotating nut and attached bevel running together on the said screw, the nut being driven by the bevel, another bevel driving the first and a shaft driving the second bevel, suitable bearings and housings being provided for these parts in connection with the said tablebracket, substantially as set forth.
4:. In a power machine drill, the combination of the main-frame column, a table-bracket l mounted and turning thereon, an upright 20 screw held against rotation by suitable means,
a' rotating nut on the screw, a bevel-Wheel on the same screw and attached to the nut, a shaft supported under the table, and a second bevel on the inner end of this shaft engaging the firstbevel, the bevels and nut being housed in a case cast integral with the table-bracket and the screw and the bevel-shaft having bearings in the same case, the table being raised and lowered by means of the nut, the
