G. R. ROBINSON. FIRE HOSE SUPPORT.
Patented Apr. 8, 1890.
m: "cams warms co., mun-mun. wumnarnu, n I:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS R. ROBINSON, OF EAST CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
FIRE-HOSE SUPPORT.
srncxrxcn'rxon forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,256, dated April 8, 1890.
hpplicatio'u filed July 1, 1389. Serial No. 316,153. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS R. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States,'residing at East Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FirelIose Supports, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved fire-hose support; and the invention relates, particularly, to the construction of the supporting-rod, its fastenings, and the manner of attaching a line of hose and its coupling thereto.
lhe invention is fully set forth in the following specification and claims and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming an inseparable 7 part thereof, of which- Figure 1 represents the figure of a fireman holding my improved apparatus, to which is attached a line of hose and its nozzle, from which a stream of water is represented as discharging. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation of the upper portion of my device. Fig. 3 is an enlarged broken section of the lower part of my improved device, showing the adjacent ends of both sections of the supporting-rod in their respective relative positions.
Similar reference letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention involves the use of a supporting-rod, which for convenience in handling is 'made in two sections A A. Upon the upper portion A of said rod is rigidly mounted my improved devices for attaching and handling a hose, comprising top and bottom brackets, respectively, B B, and one or more intermediate brackets, as shown, and rods 0, extending from one to another of said brackets and bent at c in a manner to form convenienthandles- The top bracket 13 is provided with ears b,havin'g horizontal slots 1), in which to place an ordinary stud p, which is provided at opposite sides of a coupling P. A suitable spring-catch b is also provided in each of the ears Z), which protrudes part way through the slots 11, for the purpose of holding the coupling in position, and by beveling the front or outside edge of that portion of said catch which enters said slot, as seen in the drawings, its
movement will be efifected automatically by contact with the studs 1) of the coupling when they enter said slots, and by pulling the button I) the said coupling may be removed.
Various fastenings may be attached to the bottom bracket 13 (and also any which may be placed on the rod A at intermediate points) for securing the hose P therein. In the drawings straps and buckles D d are shown for the purpose. A book b may also be formed upon the bracket 13, by means of which the device may be hung upon the rounds of a ladder while a fireman is ascending the same.
Sockets t b are formed, respectively, in the upper and lower brackets for the reception of either end of the section A of the supporting-rod when the said section is not re- I quired for a ground-rest, and within the "socket b of thebracket B is arranged a spring-follower F, as shown in Fig. 2, and to place the section A as seen by dotted lines, Fig. 1, one of its'ends is first entered into the socket b and pressed upward until the lower or opposite end will enter the socket b, where it will remain by force of gravity. That end of said section A which attaches to the socket b of the bracket B is preferably formed conical and providedwith an annular groove a for engaging a spring-catch G, which is provided upon the said bracket 13, entering the socket 11 as shown best in Fig. 3, by which means the said section A of the rod is firmly held in the position shown in full lines, Fig. 1.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a fire-hose support comprising brackets BB and connecting handle-bars, as shown, the combination of a supporting-rod formed in two sections, one section being rigidly attached to said brackets and the other forming a detachableextension thereof, substantially for the purpose set forth.
2. In a fire-hose support comprising brackets BB and connecting handle-bars, as shown, the combination of a supporting-rod formed in two sections, one section being rigidly attached to said brackets and the other forming a detachable extension thereof, and means for sections, one section being rigidly connected to said brackets and the other forming a detachable extension thereof, and means for automatically connecting the said detachable section, substantially for the purpose setforth.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' CYRUS R. ROBINSON.
