O; CHAUFP.
LAND PICKER. v y N0.'419,4l5. Patented Jamil;l 14, 1890,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo OYPRIAN OHAUFF, OF BONNET CARR, LOUISIANA.
LAN DP|CKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,415, dated January 14, 1890. Application led July 19, 1889. Serial No. 318,089. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, CYPRIAN OHAUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bonnetv Carr, in the parish of St. John Baptist and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Land-Picker; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled` in the artto which it appertains to make' and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in a rotating land-picker, in'which three or more metal shafts with metal picks attached thereon are made to operate in conjunction with lifting-bars and screws;` and the objects of my improvements are to provide a device that will thoroughly break all clods or lumps of soil after the same has been plowed. I attain these'objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying draw-ings, in which- Figure 1 is a side View. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a top view. Fig. 4 is a top view of lifting-bar. Fig. 5 is an end view of lifting-bar. i
Similarletters referto similar parts throughout the several views. j
In constructing my invention I take a metal sled, as shown by A, upon which I adjust cross frame-pieces B O,- being metal frame-pieces upon which lifting-bars E are placed, said bars E being raised or lowered by means of screws L, which are held in position by frames D.
F are braces.
G are radially-disposed forwardly-curved metal picks, which are adjusted to metal rollers, the shaft of said rollers passing' through the sides of lifting-bars E, forming virtually av journal for shafts or axle of rollers.
H is attachment for tongue.
M is a brace.
In practice it is preferable to use my landpicker upon marshy-land that has been recentlyplowed, or uponwhat is known asa hog-wallow prairie. The picks are of heavy metal adjusted to metal rollers, which are raised or loweredV by means of screws L, so as to cut any desired depth. The sled A is also constructed of metal. As theland-picker is carried forward by means of animals pulling same the three rollers rotate, and the picks Gare driven into the clods or lumps of earth, thus pulverizing the soil and leaving it in a suitable condition for cultivation. .A striking advantage of my device is the great saving of labor, as by the use of one of my land-pickers the labor of twenty-tive men can be saved when using an ordinary implement-such as a hoe-for the same purpose.
`Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In a land-picker, the combination, with the parallel runners c, connected by the front and rear arches B B and the braces M, of the vertical frame-pieces C C and D, the lifting-bars E E, having their ends engaging the vertical frame-pieces C C, the rollers journaled in the lifting-bars and provided with the radiallyprojecting forwardly-curved picks G, the vertically-projecting frames D, secured at their lower ends to the runners A, and the adjusting-screws L, connecting. the upper ends of the frames D with the lifting-bars E, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
