Description

- formed by any other material.
NITED STATES CHAS. HENRY HUDSON, OF 17 IMPROVEMENT IN TR ANSFERABLE EMBROIDERY-PATTERNS.
PATENT OFFICE.
ASKE TERRACE, COUNTY on MIDDLESEX,
ENGLAND.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 11,776, dated March 1, 1864.
To all whom it may concern."
.Be it known that I, CHARLES HENRY HUD SON, of 17 Aske Terrace, in thecounty of Middlesex and Kingdom of Great Britain, have invented a new and Improved Transferable Pattern for Embroidery, Braiding, 860.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention consists of a'paper or fabric which has its surface printed with ornamental embroidery-patterns in such a manner that when said printed paper is dampened and pressed upon any cloth or other surface the said ornamental embroidery-patterns will be transferred.
In printing the original patterns upon paper I use block-'patterns-that is, patterns formed by inserting strips of metal into wood, or The ink which I use is composed of about equal parts of sugar and guni-arabic mixed with any color and dissolved in water to the consistence of cream, so that it readily adheres to the edges of the block-patterns, and. that it leaves an impression on paper or other material upon which said block-pattern may be pressed down. Af-
ter the original patterns on paper have thus been prepared, the muslin or fabric upon which the pattern is to be transferred is dampened and stretched upon a table or fiat surface, and the original pattern is placed on it, face down, and pressed lightly with a towel or cloth all over. By these means the patterns are transferred upon the muslin or fabric ready for embroidering, braiding, stitching, 860.
Instead of dampening the muslin or other fabric upon which the pattern is to be transferred, said fabric may be simply stretched and A paper or fabric whichhas its surface provided with a transferable embroidery-pattern,
as herein described.
