UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMERIOII RADVNYI, OF BUDA-PESTII, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
SIPHON-HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,336, dated December 1'7, 1889..
Application filed April 9, 1889. Serial No. 306,633. (No model.) Patented in England October 31, 1888, No. 15,686 in Belgium u November 15, 1888,1To. 83,718,I in France December 5, 1888, No. 193,744; in Italy December 6,1888, XXII, 24,254, and in Austria-Hungary December 15, 1888,'No. 3,191 and No. 3,498.
Theobject of this invention is an improved' si phon-head, and its characteristic feature is that, owing to its peculiar construction, the liquid does not come in Contact with any metallic parts, the improved device having atthe same time great durability. To attain these ends, the improved siphon-head is so constructed that those constituents thereof which naturally come in contact with the liquid when the siphon is actuated, as well as when closed, consist of non-metallic material, and, being mostly of a fragile nature, are at t-he same time externally protected by means of a metal covering or mantle.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, showinga vertical section of the improved device as secured to the bottle, the bell-shaped piece ZJ, contained in the metal head o about the middle thereof and serving to receive the valve, and also the discharge-tube b, made of a piece therewith, consist of ceramic or other suitable material. Through the piece b passes the metal valve-pin d, on which is screwed the valve f, made from india-rubber, wood, bone, horn, or other convenient nonmetallic material. The valve pin (l is surrounded above the piece b with a spiral spring e for the purpose of allowing` the valve f, connected with valve-pin d, to be opened or closed by aid of the lever c.
. The funnel-shaped piece g, carrying the eductioirtube 72, consists of the same material as piece b. The tightening is effected by means of rings 'i j k Z, of soft india-rubber, the ring l serving besides to preclude any contact of the liquid with the spiral spring e. In order to prevent, also, that part of the metal valve-pin d which Vis comprised between the two rings e' and Z from coming in contact with the liquid, said part is surrounded with a tube p, made of the same material as the valve f. The metal cup a is screwed into and closes the Siphon-head above, while the latter is screwed in the known manner to the bottle by means of the metal ring n.
Vhat- I claim is* A metal siphomhead in which all internal parts that would otherwise come in contact with the liquid are lined with ceramic or other suitable non-metallic intermediate pieces and in which the valve f and the tube p, covering part of the valve-pin d, consist of india-rubber, wood, or other suitable non-metallic material for the purpose of preventing the liquid from coming in contact with any metal, substantially" as specified.
In testimony whereof I havev signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
