UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY A. SIMS, OF NEW' YORK, Il. Y.
DRYlNG-RAIL AND FOOT-REST FOR HEAT-REGISTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,102, dated December 10, 1889.
Application tiled October 26, 1888. Serial No. 289,212. (No model.)
To all whom it may conce/7L: r
Beit known that l, MARY A. SIMs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New `York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Combined Drying-Rail and Foot-Restfor Heat-Registers, et which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in attachments for hot-air registers; and my ob jects are to provide a simple and easily-adjustable foot-rest and a rail for supporting articles which are to be dried.
My invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings which accompany and forni part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective View ot' my device complete, attached to a register; and Figs. 2 to 8, inclusive, are detail views, Fig. 2 being a plan view of the rest, Fig. 3 an end view of the same, Fig. et a side view of the rall, Fig. 5 a plan view of the same, and Figs. G, 7, and S being severally enlarged views of the rail hinge.
A represents the frame of a hot-air register to which are secured two clamps B, having pointed rear ends l) to facilitate their insertion behind said frame. Secured to and projecting forward from each ofthe clamps B is a lu g C, having two arms terminating in disks c, the inner faces of the disks having several radial grooves c. The ends of a U-shaped rail D fit between the disks c', and are pivoted thereto by means of a pintle IZ. Ribs (Z d, projecting from the sides of the said ends, tit the radial grooves c. The arms of lug C are suticiently elastic to allow the rail D to be forcibly swung on the pintles d', to cause the ribs d d to engage different grooves c, and be then held in position.
A shelf or foot-rest E is provided with lugs c e to cuter openings in the register, and with curved lugs e c to engage the cross-bar of rail D, as shown in Fig. l. lVhen in this position, the parts serve asa foot-rest forwar1ning the feet, or wetshoes or other articles can be placed on the rest to dry or be warmed. B y removing the rest E and swinging thenail D to any desired position-as shown, for instance, by dot-ted lines in Fig. mtowels or other articles can be placed on said rail for drying or warming.
2. In an attachment for registers, the coinbination of clamps adapted to be connected with the upper part ot' a register-frame, a U- shaped rail pivotally connected with said clamps, and a shelf or foot-rest havin g means of connection with the register and the rail, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State ofNew York, this 8th day ot October, A. D. lSSS.
lllARY A. SMS.
