COMBINATION-SCREEN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,027, dated December 10, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL HOLDSWORTH, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combination-Screen, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

With the ordinary form of wire screen such as is used for the protection of doors and windows-great difficulty is experienced in storing the screens when they are removed from their position in front of the door or window, inasmuch as, if they are taken into the store or the apartment, they occupy available space and if left upon the street they are liable to be stolen.

To provide for the easy stowage of the screens, and at the same time to provide a screen which may be used as an awning-support, if desired, I have designed the screen forming the subject-matter of this application, the invention consisting, essentially, of a screen, a run or guide way to which the screen is connected, and an arm mounted upon a pivotal support and pivotally connected to the screen, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a face view of the screen, representing the same as it appears when in the raised position; and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View of the screen on line w a: of Fig. 1, the parts, however, being shown as they appear when the screen is adjusted to act as an awning-support.

In the drawings, represents a windowcasing, in the sides of which there are secured runways 11 and apertured plates 12. Through the main apertures of the plates 12 I pass projections 2, that extend laterally from arms 13, said arms being in turn connected to a screen 15. This screen 15 is provided with one or more eyes 3 upon each side, the eyes being arranged to receive the guideways.

In operation the screen may be moved to the position in which it is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and there securely locked to place by a pin or padlock; or the screen maybe raised to the position in which it is shown in full lines in Fig. 2, and there supported by a pin 16, and while in this position the screen will serve as the support for an awning; or, if desired, the screen may be moved upward to the position in which it is shown in full lines in Fig. 1, thus leaving the lower portion of the window free.

The convenience of the construction above described will be readily appreciated.
