To all whom it' may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. JAOKMAN, of Littleton, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Glove-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention more particularly relates to Ineans for closing and fastening gloves at their slitted or opening and closing wrist portions; but it is also applicable to other articles of apparel having slits or openings in them, and which admit of being similarly closed and fastened. It will suffice here, however, to show and describe the invention as applied to gloves only.

The invention consists in a novel application of a draw cord, tape, or string to the glove or article to be closed or fastened, substantially as hereinafter'described, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings,forming a part of this specification, in which- Figures l and 2 represent views in perspective of a glove, as seen from its face side, with my improved fastener applied, certain portions of the glove being broken away to more clearly explain my invention, Fig. l showing the glove as open at its slitted wrist portion, and Fig. 2 the glove as closed at said part by the fastener.

The glove A is provided with the usual slit or opening b at its wrist portion, and, if desired, may be fitted with an ordinary inner curtain-piece c at said opening. Around said wrist portion of the glove, extending from one side of the opening b to the other side thereof, is a pocket d, adapted to receive within it a draw cord, tape, or string B, for closing the slit or opening b and fastening the glove when required, as shown in Fig. 2. This cord or string is fastened at its one end, as at e, to the glove on one side of the opening b, and from thence passes across said opening to and along within the pocket d and out through the opposite end of said pocket to that at which it was entered. To more firmly draw together the opening or a desired amount of the space b,the cord or string can be fastened ,to the curtain-piece c and pass through an eyelet or hole at e. The free end of the cord may have any desired projection f to give iinish to said end and to facilitate the drawing or fastening of the cord.

To close the opening b in the glove, the parts being in the position represented in Fig. l, it is only necessary to pull upon the free end of the cord B, when the parts will assume the position shown in Fig. 2. In doing this there will be comparately little friction, as the strain is purely lengthwise of the cord; but when the glove is drawn tight around the wrist the strain or pressure upon the cord is in an outward direction all around away from the wrist, thus producing a sufficient lateral friction upon the cord to hold the glove closed. If desired, however, to make the fastening still more secure, the draw-cord B can be woven through eyelets or holes in the pocket d to get any desired amount of friction.

The glove is readily opened at its slit b by pulling upon that portion of the cord which crosses the opening b in a contrary direction tothat in which the free end of the cord was manipulated in closing the glove.

Among the articles to which besides gloves my invention is applicable are boots and shoes having a slit or opening in them for the ready entrance of the foot and adapted to fit closely around the foot or ankle upon drawing together the portions of the article on op` posite" sides of its slit or opening.

Having thus fullydescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a fastener for gloves, the combination,

with the glove having a slit or opening in its wrist portion and a pocket extending around said portion to or near opposite sides of the slit, of a cord, tape, or string attached at its one end to the glove, then passing across said slit or opening to and along within the pocket and out through the opposite end of said pocket to that at which it was entered, for operation essentially as herein set forth.
