tickets, and other similar uses.
The apparatuswhich I here describe has reference more particularly to a self-feeding ticket-issuing apparatus for accident-insurance tickets. Such tickets are shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4 by dotted lines. The tickets, as will be seen, are perforated transversely and longitudinally. The transVerse perforation is for the purpose of allowing a pair of duplicate tickets to be separated from a series, and the longitudinal perforation, is forthe purpose of allowing the duplicate tickets to be separatcd, one of which is intended for the depositor of the coin, and the other of which is intended to be returned to the box by hand for the purpose of keeping a record of the transaction.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which- Fgure l is an isonetrical perspective of the case of the self-feeding ticket-issuing apparatus. Fig. 2 is a section taken upon the plane of line w m, Fig. 3, looking down upon the apparatus and showing the working mechanism; Fig. 3, a rear end View showing the apparatus at rest. Fig. 4 is also a rear end View showing the apparatus after it has been started. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional elevation upon the plane of the line y y, Fig. 3, with the rear lid or cover closed. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a coin-chute; and Fig. 7 is a section through the center, showing the channel and its projection.

The lever B is mounted on the standard Gr between the forward -projecting arms G G, resting on the knife-edge bar g The shorter arm of the lever B contains the adjust-able weight g', which can be adjusted by means of the set-screw g so as to be aproper counter-balance for the desired coin. The shorter end of the lever B passes through a slot shown at T, the purpose of which is to assist in lockingthe end of the lever B which fits into the slot a. In performing its revolution the lever B follows the periphery of the cam C, and the coin basket is gradually lowered.
The coin-basket is pivotally Suspended in the lever B. As the basket is lowered it comes in contact with the trip S, and is turned into the position shown in Fig. 4, when it deposit-s the coin upon the floor.
The shaft D contains the beveled pinion c. This pinion c works at right angles to the pinion c', which operates the ticket feed rollers D' D which are mounted in the bearings A' A which bearings are fastened to the upper side of the frame E. On the inner end of these rollers D' D are small gearwheels d' (1 The tickets are contained in the box I, and pass round the guide roller J, which is mounted in the bearings attached to the receptacle I, up through the two feed-rollers D' D One revolution of the crank will pro duce at the slot K one pair of duplicate tickets.
Upon the' shaft D, below the cam C, is a pin F, projecting out so as to strike against the stifi spring f, the purpose of which is to throw back the cam C, so as to leave the end of the lever B free in. the slot (1,.
' At the lowest end of the shaft D is attached a ratchet-wheel e, which, together with the pawl e', holds the working parts of the apparatus in any position, thus preventing the erank (l from being turned in the wrong di rection.
The object of the gcaewheels d' Ll on the rolle-s D' I) is to prevent the tickets from being pulled out eontinuously, which they aecomplish by looking the rollers D' D The ecin-basket A is perforated so as to allow any foreign substances-such as shot, sand, or fluids-to fall through. This basket has a lip a', which rests 011 the curved end of the releasing lever B, the object of which is to hold the basket in a horizontalposition.
The coin-ehute II has the slot-channel h. It will be noticed that at a point h' in the ,passage of the clute it projects beyond the opening h The reason for this is that a wire cannot be passed through the channel down to the basketA, and thereby release the lever B. The chute II has a slot or reetangular opening in its side wall, so that any coin smaller than the required size will drop out, the side walls of the channel being flared. It has also a long narrow slot h which is intended to hold any eord, &0.,1hat nay be passed through the ehute.
The rods L L have fastened to their forward ends hooks l I, which catch into eyelets in the cover of the box when the lid E' is closed.
What I claim its--- 1. The combination, With the nechanism for feeding a stip of paper, of the drivingshaft for the said mechanisn, a cam carried thereby having a recess therein, and a lever carrying a Coin-basket having one end resting upon the said cam and adapted to enter the said reeess when the shaft is in proper position to lock the same and to be moved by the cam as the shaft is turned to discharge the coin, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the shaft D, the rollers D' 13 geared with the shaft, which normally looks theni against rotation, the cam on the said shaft, and the looking-lever B, having one end traveling upon the cam and provided with a coin-receiving basket, substantially as set forth.
3. The eonbination, in a tieket-vending apparatus, of the rollers D' D the miter-gears c e', the shaft D, the cani C, the lever B, and the tipping Coin-basket A, substantially as described.
4:. The conbination of the rolle's D' D the gears (l' (1 the niter-gears c e', the shaft D, provided with 'otatory meehanisn d, and the lock for the shaft D, whereby the rollers D' D are prevented from rotation excepting on the rotatiou of the shaft D, substantially as described.
5. The incliued chute Il, provided with the discharge-slot for eoins of small size, and the narrow slot 71; adjaeent to the discharge end of the receiver, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. i
6. In a veuding apparatus, the lever B, provided With a c-urved end, in combination with the eoin-basket A, pivoted in the curved end of the lever B, and provided with a lip a' for holding it in a horizontal position, and a Stationary trip with which the eon-baskct engages as the lever is depressed, substautially as set forth.
7. The counterbalaneed lever B, having a eurved outer end, a coin-receiving basket A, having perforatious in its bottom and pivoted in the eurved end of the lever, and a trip for the basket, substantially as set forth.
