UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVOS IIEIDEL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE NATIONAL SELF-HEATING SAD IRON COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
BURNER FOR SELF-HEATING SAD-IRONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,716, dated November 26, 1889. Application filed December 6, 1888. Serial No. 292,785. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I,GUsTAvOs HEIDEL, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improve- 5 ment in Burners for Self-Heating Sad-Irons, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in Which- Io Figure I is a side elevation of a sad-iron with my improved burner applied. Fig; II is a top view of the burner. 1
This invention relates to the construction of a burner for self-heating sad-irons, the ob- 15 ject being to construct such a device as will be noiseless and in which all the gases will be consumed and prevented from escaping in their passage from the jet to the commingling-tube.
To this end my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, l represents the body of the burner. 2 represents the jet of the 25 burner; 3, the commingling-tube; anderepresents the drip-cup.
My invention relates particularly to the construction of the commingling-tube. It has a nose 5, that extends into the combustionchamber of the iron, and at the outer end of l 3o this nose are Win gs 6, that receive the gas from" the jet and the oxygen necessary to supply combustion. rIhe wings are formed on a fiaring marginal ange 7 of the nose, forming a mouth-piece to the commingling-tube, and it 3 5 will be understood that as the gas escapes from the jet and is directed into the commin glin g-tube the win gs will prevent any portion of it escaping and will add to the amount of oxygen commingled with the gas and forced into the combustion-chamber; and it has been found in practice that these wings avoid the noise incident to this class of burner.
The sad-iron to which my burner is shown as applied is shown, described, and claimed 45 in my application of even date herewith, Scrial No. 292,786.
I claim as my invention- The generating-burner consisting of the forwardly-projecting comminglingtube 3, formed with a nose 5 and Haring marginal flange 7, having the wings G and providing a mouth-piece to the tube, the body l, and the jet 2, substantially as shown and described.
