To all whomvt may-concern:

Be it known that I, J oHN BIRKENHEAD, of Ilion, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented a Cover-Guard for Pistols orfother Fire-Arms; and I do'hereby declare that the following is a full and exact descriptionv thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, the sameietters referring to the same parts in each hgure.

Letter 0 5 is a plate, of any suitable form and material, to attach to the weapon, with a projection at b and c, to which is connected, at b, the cover d, by a hinge-joint, cover d being made of brass or any suitable material, as seen in Fig. 2, and is hollowed out from g to g', to receive the trigger when closed.

e is a notch, which strikes on the point of the trigger when the hammer is on the cone or at full-cock. Hence the guard cannot be Aclosed with the hammer in any other position than at half-cock notch, which is the only safe position, and at which place only canthe cylinder be revolved for loading, capping, &c.;
