Be itknown that LWALLAcE SALMON Hon LAND, of Pasadena, in the county of Los A11- geles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding Blinds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
My invention relates to an improvement in sliding blinds, the object of the same being to provide a blind of such construction that the friction caused in raising and lowering the same will be reduced to a minimum.
A further object is to provide a blind of such construction as to overcome the difficulties heretofore encountered in blinds, in which the friction met with in raising the blind has been so great as to render it an effort to accomplish the same. In my invention the defects are completely overcome, as the raisin gthereof is more easily accomplished than the lowering; but both adjustments are, however, made with great ease.
A further object is to provide a blind of the above character which shall be simple and economical in construction and durable and efficient in use; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying'drawings, Figure lis a perspective view'of the blind. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section showing groove in blind, spring therein, and the movable pressurebar. Fig. 3 is a detail edge view. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line w 00 of Fig. 2.
A and B represent the jambs of a windowframe, the former of which is provided with the narrow and shallow groove on and the latter with the shallow groove 1), each being adapted to receive the guides c and d, respectively, on the blind O. The guidesc are composed of thin metal plates, and are secured in the blind 0 one above the other, preferably in the ends thereof, as shown, while the guide d forms part of the blind, being cut away therefrom, as shown; but, if preferred, the guides may be formed from the blind, as at d, or secured thereto, as at c, the construction being of no special import, as they simply serve as guides to the blind.
In the edge of the blind is formed the elliptical groove f, the portion of which nearest the top of the blind is on a higher horizontal plane than the lower end of the groove. The groove is incased on its upper side with the plate 9, secured to the shutter by means gages the groove, thereby lessening the fric tion.
From the construction described it will be observed that as the bottom portion of the groove is deeper than the upper portion the bar D will naturally glide to such lower end when the blind is raised, by means of which the force of the spring is lessened and the friction decreased. WVhen the blind is lowered, the bar will work toward the upper end of the groove and will be in proper position for rendering easy the elevating of the blind.
I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown and described, but consider myself at liberty to make such amendments and alterations as properly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention, as the manner of forming the groove and pressure-bar may be susceptible of alterations. v
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patient, is p In a sliding blind, the combination, with a groove having one end elevated and a spring located therein, of a bar provided with rollers engaging said spring,whereby the friction will be lessened when the blind is elevated, sub stantially as shown and described.
