TOILET AND WRITING CASE COMBINED.
Specification forming partvofLetters Patent No. LlS, dated January 5, 1864.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN B. BROOKS, ot' Salem, in the county of Essex and' State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Military TVriting-Folio and Vork and Toilet Case Combined; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, reference being had t0 the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan of my invention, rolled up. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, rolled up. Fig. 3 is a plan with the folio open and the work and toilet case rolled up and packed in the box or tray. Fig. 4 is an end view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan with the folio and work and toilet case open. Fig. 6 is a section online a a, Fig. 5.
The nature of my invention consists of a box or tray of tin or other material, attened on one or more sides for the purpose of resting firmly, and having attached to this box or tray a writing'folio and work and toilet case, which may be rolled up compaetly upon it, the whole designed for the use of soldiers, travelers and others, as will be hereinafter shown and described.
A represents a cylindrical box or tray, of tin or other metal, flattened at one side for the purpose of resting firmly when in use.
B represents a compartment in the box or tray for thimbles, buttons, and miscellaneous articles, which are secured in place by a hinged lid or cover, K.
C represents an inkstand, which does not need to be removed from the tray when in use.
D represents the work and toilet case rolled up and deposited in the tray, and which will be hereinafter described.
E represents a strip of cloth or leather iirmly attached to the tray and lined in such a man ner as to form two pockets L and M. This strip rolls up on and envelops the tray, and when thus rolled up is held in place by elastic loops.
O represents an elastic cord or loop attached to the lining of E for the purpose of securing envelopes.
F represents a piece of cloth attached to the strip E, before mentioned and lined with blottin g-paper. This serves as a blotting-pad and also as a partition to separate the writingpaper from the work and toilet case.
P represents a loop attached at the points P and P, for the purpose ofsecuring sheets of paper, a sheet printed in squares to be used as achess or checker board, and any other articles of a similar nature.
I will now proceed to describe the work and toilet case before mentioned.
Fig. 5 represents the work and toilet case unrolled.
Gr represents a stripvof cloth attached to the strip E.
H represents a strip of cloth or leather sewed upon the strip G, and arranged in folds or compartments for securing or holding yarn, thread, cotton, silk, twine, pencil, pen-holder, pens, pins, tooth-brush, tooth pick, knife, scissors, tweezers, and other miscellaneous articles.
I represents a strip of cloth attached to the strip G for the purpose of holding needles.
The work and toilet case may be rolled up and packed in the tray, and when so rolled up is independent ofthe writing-case.
