SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,293, dated September 1'?, 1889. Application filed February 18, 1889. Serial No. 300,322- (Nn modela4 To all whom, i! may concern.-
Be it known that I, Cannes C. llloRIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing' at Olean, in the county of tlattaraugus and State et New 5 York, have invented certain new and uselul Improvements in a Ilot-SodaApparatus; and
l do declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact (lcscription et the invention, such as Y will enable others skilled in lthe art to which xo it appertains to make and use the same, reference being` had to the aecl'nnlianying d rawings, and to the letters ol' reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line f1: 11;, Fig'. l; Fig. il, a similar section on line y y at the neck of the globe.
This invention relates to an ap]j)aratus for supplying hot soda-wat@r57 and it consists in the construction hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, the let-ter Aindieates a suitable shell made cylindrical and of some metal, such as nickel. This shell consists of an inverted-cup-shapcd bottom ll and a receptacle U. Within the receptacle C is placed concentric with the Wall o a boiler l), made o copper. XVithin this boiler Vll* is a tank E. leadil'ig from the top of this tank E is a pipe l?, which passes down through water-I tight openings and ofi: from the apparatus. From the bottom of the tank E extends a coil ot' pipe G,Which reaches to about the top of the tank and terminates in the pipe ll, which, passing out of the shell through water-tight openings, is providedv with the faucet 7L.
The space between the boiler D and the wall c of the receptacle C is divided by diaphragms g int-o compartments l, as many as may be de sired, each having 'its own faucet t'. These compartments are preferably arranged in two sets, as shown, having spaces lo 7c', and. have the Walls Qbetiveen which and the wall of the shell is an air-space Through the space lo passes the pipe ll, and through the space 7a thetubes Z l, leading to the gageglass L.
rlhe cover M has the depending rings m m', adapted to snugly fit Within the shell and boiler. This cover M has the upwardly-projecting neck N, within which is a central opening fn, around which is a flange a', and to one side a hole n?, from which a nozzle uidcf ponds.
Closely litting within the neck of the rover M is the open neck p of .figlass "lobe l.
vPassing;` upnardthrough the apparatus in the space /.1 aro two pipes lt and S. 'lhe former pipe It passos'th rough the top ol` the boi ler up through the central opening u; Without closing' such opening and terlntnat-esin ajetz; now/.le ruit-hinthoglehe. Aroiiiulthisfnonzle oo fr is placed a plate T, convex on top and having several holes l close to the jet nozzle. 'lhe pipe S also passes into hc boiler and terminates in a un nel s just below the nov'.- zle or.
lhulerneatli the a p,1, aratus is placed any source of heat, such yas a gas-jet or lamp V.
Vv'ithin the iwinpartmcnts l can he put Yari'ous sirops, cotlee, cream, ttc.
Vfater is admitted through the pipe l 1 into 7o the tank it, filling the latter and the coil (l, the flow ol' the water being controlled by the `faucet 7L. At the start enough Water is put into the boiler D to eo'ver the tank and coil. llcat is supplied lfrom the source AV'. As soon 75 as the Water in the boiler comes to the boilingpoint and steam rises the latter passes through the opening 7L around the pipe R and into thev globe l. bold Water is then admitted into the globe l through the pipe it, passing out 8o through the jet-nozzle r. rihis water condenses the steam as it rises into the globe, andthe water fallinpr to the bottom of the globe and withinF the neck N runs down through the hole n2 into the pipe S and escapes. 8 5 The ange n aroundvthe opening fn is high enough to prevent any ot' this water `from running into the boiler ll; but some of the spraying` water falling on the plate T will 'trickle through the holesif down through the opening ed n and into the boiler, this amount being suficient to supply' the Waste from evaporation., As the water in the boiler becomes hot, the heat warms the water in the tank and coil.
This forms avery eieient and attractive apparatus. The water in the boiler not onlyY heats the wat-er in the tank and coil, bntkeeps the entire apparatus hot, so that *the substances in the compartments are kept Warm,
the air-chamber between the walls reducing zoo radiation of heat. As it is needed, hotwaler is drawn from the fancct 71..
Having," described my invention, what l claim is The combination oi' the receptacle C, the boilci D within and the compartment-S I be tween them, and the tank li and coil (l with the pipe ll Within the boiler, the pipe il leadlng out of the boiler and receptacle, and with the pipe 1 1, leading,r into tank, as Set forth.
2. The combination of' the receptacle and its inclosed boiler, the cover, and the globe Supported thereby and communica-ting with the steam-space of the boiler with the waterpipe leading` into the globe and a waste-pipe terminating' below a hole in the bottoni olf said globo, as set forth.
il. 'lhe vonibimltimi of' the receptacle C, the
boiler D, the cover .NL-having; the neck N, opening n., and hole fm2, and the globe P, communicat-ing' with the steam-space of the boiler, with the pipes R and S, the formerpassing through the opening n into the globe and the latter terminating below the hole u2, as set forth.
4. The pipeR, having the jet-nozzle r, and the plate T, having the holes 2, in combination with the globe and the cover, the latter having an'openingbelow said holes, the boiler, and coil within it', as set forth.
In testimony whereof l aiiix my Signat-ure in 3o presence of two witnesses.
CARLOS C. MORlAN.
