UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY JENNINGS, OF STANGA'IE, COUNTY OF SURREY, ENGLAND.
DEVICE 0R BUSH FOR FIXING THE TRUNNlONS 0F BASINS USED lN TIP-UP LAVATORIES, do.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,795, dated September 10, 1889. Application filed January 4,1889. Serial N0.295,384. (No model.) Patented in England May '7, 1888, No. 6,791.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY JENNINGS, sanitary engineer, a subject of the Queen of Great Britian, residing at Stan gate, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented certain Improvements in Trunnion-Bushes, (for which I have previously obtained Letters Patent in Great Britain, dated May 7, 1888, No. 6,791,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
This invention relates to improvements in trunnion-bushes for supporting tip-uplavatory-basins. Such bushes have heretofore been fixed in inverted U-shaped lugs or recesses formed on opposite sides of the basin, the trunnions resting on semicircular bearings provided inthe frame-work or wash-table, such semicircular bearings allowing the basin to be readily lifted out when required.
' III practice it is found thatthrough careless tilting when employing the basin the trunnions are displaced and the lugs, which are formed of porcelain homogeneous with the basin, are brought into contact with the metal bearings and thereby damaged. To prevent this, I have devised a new form of bush, which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
of which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of the basin, and Fig. 2 a vertical section through line 00 a: of Fig. 1.
A is the bush, which is fixed, as usual, in the recess provided for it between the earthenware lugs B, which are integral with the basin. The trunnion A projects, as usual, from the center of the bush, and on the outer edge of the latter is formed a flange or rim A This flange only extends around ab outthree-fourths of the circumference of the bush, an opening being left sufficiently wide for the bearing C 40 to pass through, which passage can only be effected by keeping the basin in a horizontal position when raising or lowering it. If the trunnion is displaced when merely tilting the basin the flange or rim A comes in contact with the convex or under side of the bearing 0 and prevents the total displacement of the trunnion, besides protecting the lugs B from injury.
Having thus particularly described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In abasin-support, the combination, with a basin provided with a trunnion and with a partially-surrounding flange having an open- 5 5 ing smaller than its internal diameter, of a trunnion-bearing having a horizontal dimension a little less than the width of said opening, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described trunnion-bush Afdo provided with a trunnion A and a surrounding flange A of more than a half-circle, hav ing an opening on its under side, substantially as set forth.
