G. V. BREOHT.
MEAT CUTTER. No. 409,908. Patented Aug. 27, 1889.

Jf K ATTORNEY (Saw 77 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVUS V. BREOI-IT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
MEAT-CUTTER.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,908, dated August 27, 1889.
Application filed February 14, 1889. Serial No. 299,897. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS V. BRECHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Meat-Out ters, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to secure a true position of the cutting-disks and an easy operation of a meat-cutter, as set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a section of a meat-cutter along line a; m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section alongline y 1 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the cutating-disk. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the shaft. Fig. 5 is a section along line a ,2, Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a detail view of a holding-disk.
Siniilarletters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letter A indicates the body or shell of the device. The cover B is jointed to the body at O, and said cover is held against swinging open by a pin or lock D, suitably applied. The cover B'has a funnel E, for feeding the meat to be cut to the device, and the cut meat passes off through opening F. Knives G are secured to the shell and cover.
The shaft II has a square or angular body, the faces I being placed in a spiral position, and said shaft also has the series of radiallyprojecting ribs K, which, as shown, extend obliquely to the axis of the shaft. The cutting-disks L have cutters or blades M, and said disks L have square or angular holes, Fig. 3, so that they fit the spiral faces I of the shaft H. The holding-disks N have circular holes, Fig. (3, so as to fit snugly and firmly onto the radially-projecting ribs K. The holding-disks N thus sit firm and true on the shaft II and hold the cutting-disks L firmly in their proper position and prevent wabblin g or shaking of the cutting disks. The cutters M of the disks L as the shaft rotates thus pass between the knives G and are prevented from striking against said knives G, whereby damage might be caused. When rotating very rapidly, the shaft and disks are apt to become warm, and thus melting of the fat of the meat is caused. One or more of the disks N can be provided with a groove or grooves O, by which the melted fat is led to the bearing of the shaft to lubricate said bearing. The rotation of the shaft is thus eased.
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the casing and rotating shaft, of a series of cutters mounted on the shaft and holding-disks at the ends of said cutters, the outer face of one of said disks being provided with a groove for leading or drawing a lubricant to the shaft-bearing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVUS v. BRECHT. [L. 8.]
