HORSE-COLLAR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,418, dated August 20, 1889.

Be it known that I, WVILLIAM MURR, of Fountain City, in the county of Buffalo and State of lVisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Horse-Oollar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactde scription.

This invention relates to horse-collars, the object of the invention being to provide a collar which may be adjusted to such size as is required, and which shall be so constructed that it may be readily repaired.

To the ends named the invention consists of the novel constructions, arrangements, and combination of elements, to be hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a front view of a collar embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of the collar proper, the hames being removed, the collar being separated at the throat, and parts being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on line a; so of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken through the neck of the collar, and Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the connection of the hames.

In constructing such a collar as the one forming the subject-matter of this application I provide two collar- sections 10 and 10, the sections being provided with flaps 11 and 11, respectively, said flaps being apertured to receive a binding or lacing strip 12, the flaps. being arranged so that by undoing the lacingstrip they may be adjusted so as to enlarge or decrease the size of the collar. The neck is protected by a shield 13, which overlaps the flaps 11 and 11, and is provided with a flap 14, the edges of the shield being united by a lacing-strip 15.

To the collar-section 10 there is connected a strap 16, which passes through apertures formed in the overlapping edges of a shield or housing 17, the strap 16 being provided with a buckle 18, that is engaged by a strap 19, secured to the collar-section 10, the lower or throat ends of the collar-sections being formed so as to enter the housing or shield 17, and to be held therein when the straps 16 and 19 are engaged, as represented in Fig. 1.

The hames, which are shown at 20, are each provided with plates 21, that are held to the V collar by set-screws 22.

From the above description it will be seen that the collar may be adjusted so as to fit almost any horse, and that the hames will be held to place upon the collar.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a horse-collar, the combination, with the sections 10 and 10, having their upper ends adjust-ably connected together, of the shield 13, receiving the said upper ends and provided with the flap 14, substantially as described.

2. In a horse-collar, the combination, with the sections 10 and 10, having their upper ends adjustably connected together, of the shield 13, having its edges united by the lac ing-strip 15, and provided with the flap 14, substantially as herein shown and described.

3. In a horse-collar, the combinations of the sections 10 and 10, provided with the apertured flaps 11 and 11, the lacing-strip 12, and the shield 13, substantially as described.

4. A horse-collar consisting of the sections 10 and 10, provided with the apertured flaps 11 and 11, the lacing-strip 12, the shield 13, the straps 16 and 19, secured to the lower ends of the sections, and the housing 17 receiving the said lower ends of the sections, substantially as herein shown and described.

5. The combination, with the collar herein described, formed of the sections 10 10, united at top and bottom, substantially as described, of the hames 20, the plates 21, secured to the hames, and the set-screws 22, substantially as set forth.
